If you go to this place, you must watch the screening of the movie on Indonesia. The place is really big and the bag at the information center is not very helpful. So either opt for private tour or motorbike taxi or use the buses plying. One can easily spend an entire day here. Houses and museums represents the Indonesian cultures, but the families visiting the place makes it interesting. It was fun watch how people use the space for family outing, as a romantic get away etc.
to You can do your souvenir shopping from Thaman Mini, it is the cheapest and best place to buy them.

I went there for weekend with couple of friends, it was actually my first visit. It is a great place for few days to relax and escape from all the hectic in jakarta, definitely worth the visit!

The islands are nice enough but the holiday packages can be so expensive that it's actually better value to fly and visit Bali instead. Best value is to go in large organised groups.

Been to Jakarta a number of times now and to be honest I wouldn't stay for longer than a few days if I could avoid it due to a lack of things to see & do. Pulau Seribu on the other hand is perfect for a few days to get out of the pollution / traffic that makes Jakarta a place where you spend almost 100% of the time indoors or in a car. Went to an island (not sure which one now but don't care as I'd happily go back or to another) and I was the only one there besides the locals. Couldn't dive due to currents which was a shame so went out fishing instead and to the surprise of both myself & my fisherman's guide actually caught a decent one from a handline and had it for dinner ! Will definitely come back to any one of the islands if I'm back in Jakarta with a couple of days to spare

Great place to get away from the crammed streets of Jakarta. Only about 1 - 3 hours by boat(depending on which island or boat service you use). It's incredible how clear the water is considering it's so close to the dirty polluted waters of Jakarta. You still will see some trash floating around(Indonesian thing unfortunately) but the wayer is crystal. I've been to Bunaken which is supposably a diving/snorkelling gem but this place is not too far off it. The accommodation options vary depending on which island you go to. It suits every budget. You can have 4/5 star luxury on some of the outer islands or simple homestay places in others. Most foreigners just fly in through Jakarta and straight out again. My advice would be to hang around for a few days and give it a try. you won't be disappointed. I've been living here for a 7 months and have gone out 3 times now.. I'd highly recommend it to anyone staying around the area and need to clear their heads.
