If you visit Jakarta and Kota Tua, this restaurant is a place that you should not miss. If possible, you should choose to sit upstairs so you can see many interesting views infront of Fatahillah museum from the cafe. The food is excellent, there are many options of local dishes with western touch. The service is also excellent but the price is pricey tough. Nevertheless, I think it is value for money because you can feel different atmosphere that you can't find it elsewhere. If you decide to visit this restaurant, set your pace slowly to enjoy the lovely ambience.

The decor looks a bit tired and in need of refurbishment. It was difficult to catch the waiters attention and service slow. Quality of food was disappointing and the food ordered was incorrect.
Would only considered going there for a late night drink or food if I had no choice when I am stuck in another Jakarta traffic jam!!

Food is ok but the decor is very nice. Old style, lots of beautiful photos / pictures from colonial era, heavy old furniture etc.

Gives you a very "colonial" feeling - you sit on the top floor, get a view by the window, and look down from 'on high' at the local families / kids who are eating street food / playing with plastic toys etc and are generally of a significantly different income bracket from the clientele of Batavia. Mixed feelings about this - obviously it's a bit strange to have that steep contrast between Batavia and its immediate neighbourhood, but people-watching from that window is actually really interesting from that spot, as you are looking down on the local square. There was a festival of some description going on the day I was there, and cute little kids were riding little bikes with matching hats, there were some performances on, etc.

Nice experience. Also there are plenty of museums in Old Jakarta (didn't get to see them so can't comment, but location is very convenient for museum visits)

Me and a friend have been visiting Kota and we decided to have brunch at Cafe Batavia. The place has an excellent atmosphere, very old school colonial, something that is not easy to find in Jakarta.

We have ordered a mix of western and eastern food. Nothing too memorable but fairly in the standard. The dim sum especially was very basic...

In a place like this they should feature traditional dutch colonial food or a east-west fusion rather than a classic selection. One positive note were the typical indonesian spiced drinks, those were really unique.

Another negative note was the pricing, fairly too high for the standards.

OK, so this is a place for tourists and expats which celebrates the "good old times feeling". But it does it in a very nice way. Since there is no way to miss the Batavia, it is recommended for a stop.

The cafe/restaurant is in the heart of the old town at the central square (which is not called this way). The Jakarta history and the puppet musuem are located on this square as well as a fair bit of colonial architecture. If you (luckily or unlickely, depending on your view) stay in Jakarta, you will not be able to miss this part of town.

The cafe / restaurant has two stories, all furnished in something I would call 20s colonial style with wood and glass lamps. I had a table on the first floor overlooking the square, which does make for a nice view. I had a beef soup which comes with some rice for 45.000 Rupiah and which tasted quite nice.

In terms of price, I paid 140.000 for a soup, coke and a coffee. Probably outrageously expensive for Indonesia and at c. 10 Euro very good value for European standards.

Service is OK.
