“Fabulous piece of history - and great, cold chocolate shakes!”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

We love this little piece of Jakarta history and it's a wonderful place to get away from the heat of the day. We didn't eat but we had several drinks each and they were cool and refreshing and not overly expensive for the place.

The little stalls nearby are fscinating to walk amongst, though there's not much English spoken in them.

“Food and Peace”
Reviewed February 20, 2013

after a long ride from Cikini Raya, Cafe Batavia made us happy people again because of the unique mood of the place. Surrounded by old buildings with impecable architecture and design, it gives you the feeling of Europe in the middle of a tropical night market.

“Good Food and Ambiance”
Reviewed February 9, 2013

While visiting Fatahillah Square near Kota Railway station, Jakarta, we found this cafeteria and walked in. Receptionist guided us to a nice table on first floor from where we could see the bustling square.

In and around this cafe, almost all the walls and pillars (even in the bathrooms) were full of Photographs of Celebrities like John F. Kennedy from USA, J.L.Nehru from India and so on. This restaurant also achieved the award of one of top ten Bars in Jakarta.

Food and service was good. I liked their special drink 'Bir Pletok' a mixture of several spices such as ginger, lemongrass, and pandanus leaves. Price is reasonable looking to the place which gives feeling of royal atmosphere, and a music band playing your request songs.

“Classic old-world charm”
Reviewed February 9, 2013

I am giving this place higher marks mostly for it's ambience. This is a must-go for visitors who want to get a feel of the old classic Batavia. The food was just ok, nothing special... Go for dinner & get a table upstairs by the shutter windows and watch the night market in the plaza while listening to vintage music poping & cracking on a phonograph... it's a nice touch from a bygone era.

“Old world colonoial style cafe”
Reviewed February 7, 2013

What a delight , in the centre of the old town of Jakarta, a real 1900's style cafe, with air con !
Prices are extremeley reasonable and the service outstanding.
As you walk around the square, locals will ask if they can take your photo, europeans being little in evidence.
We even got 'interviewed' by some marketing consultants who wanted to practice their English.
