Hotel Indonesia Kempinski
Ranked #30 of 471 Hotels in Jakarta
Reviewed April 4, 2013

I have stayed at Hotel Indonesia Kempinski three times to date, and can't have been more pleased. The hotel is very well maintained, check in is a fairly seamless process. Staff are attentive, bell boys are very helpful.

The lifts and walk to the rooms are also pleasant, but the only thing to note is that the rooms on the extreme right and left of the lifts have a very narrow corridor. It almost feels like you're in a forbidden or forgotten part of the hotel.

Once you enter the rooms, you feel immediately at home. Rooms are spacious, beds are nice and comfy and the bathrooms are my favourite part! They are big, spacious, very well organised and they have these amazing Japanese toilet seats that are sensor-operated, self warming, with plenty of fancy controls. Wifi is provided free to all guests everywhere in the hotel, which is fantastic.

There's a nice lounge in the lobby with comfortable couches for meetings or if you just have some time to kill till your flight. The lobby has a direct connection to Grand Indonesia Mall, which is very convenient if you want to do some shopping or pick up something you forgot to bring. There are also quite a few dining options there, the nicest being Social House (must make a reservation in advance!) and Sky Bar.

This hotel is located right in the city centre which is perfect if most of your work is in the area. If it isn't, beware. Traffic around the area gets really bad during peak hours and when it rains, you can get stuck at the roundabout for a good hour!

All in all, I like this hotel and would definitely recommend it to anyone thinking of visiting Jakarta and staying in the heart of the city.

Room Tip: Basic category rooms don't come in a twin layout, so know that you have to pay US$30 extra for t...

Recently took my parents to the Kempinski for a three day stay as part of their 40th Wedding Anniversary trip to Indonesia.

The Kempinski deserves its position amongst the finest hotels in Asia. We booked the executive rooms overlooking the Welcome Monument. They're enormous, luxurious and equipped with everything that opens and shuts. The bathroom (complete with window-placed, free-standing bath behind louvred shutters) was so large you could hold that cliched dance in it! Best of all was the view of the Welcome Monument and down along Jalan Thamrin. This really is the centre of a fantastic city.

The staff and service was fantastic and as well as being a magnificent design hotel, you still get a sense of the Hotel Indonesia's history - I particularly enjoyed checking out the in-house museum.

Mum and Dad loved that the hotel was attached to the Plaza Indonesia Shopping Centre. As well as the usual big-name mall brands, there are loads of funky, made-in Indonesia boutiques and some great value coffee shops.

Meanwhile, I'd have been content to sit by the pool or hang out in the gym (really well-equipped and with great views of the city) - but this is Jakarta and there's way too much to explore!

Room Tip: The extra dollars for the view over the Welcome Monument are worth it.

With the amount of history that is attached to the hotel, we were quite surprised how poorly it was managed. The staff was there to check in, walk guest to table, serve, clear, clean but with no customer service in mind. No smile, just saying the words they were told to say, no eye contact and no anticipation to customer's needs. The security staff posted between the mall and hotel were the only staff who genuinely greeted us + thanked us. The only positive out of our weekend stay was the food, so kudos to the chefs. There were maintenance equipment visible in public area (ladders in the corridor, engineering trolleys at pool area, housekeeping trolley unattended left by the lifts) shows no supervision, very sad to see when we were expecting 5 star experience. Management should really take time to learn what the competitors like Fourseasons + Hyatts are doing.

Room Tip: ask for room that is away from the lift because you can hear the ding dong sound that notifies lift...

I was really impressed with this Hotel. I stayed here for 5 nights. Superb location and right next door to a shopping mall. The staff at reception helped us organize a tour. The buffet breakfast is wonderful- and seems to cater for a lot of different nationalities. Myself and my partner had "the couples treatment" at the Spa ( I highly recommend this if your travelling as a couple). Overall- I had a very relaxing & enjoyable stay here.

Luxury, new and tastefully designed rooms and hotel located at the junction near Plaza Indonesia mall so it's super convenient to find food and kill time after long day meeting clients. Breakfast was hugh spread too. Recommend for business/leisure stay.

I was given a smoking room and being a non-smoker I could smell the stale smoke all through the corridor into my room. Also along the walkway through Nirwana Lounge is very "stale".

I was awoken at 6.30am with housekeeping coming into the room. It is strange for housekeeping st such unearthly hour. There is also no "catch" or door latches/chain like other hotels as a security check.

I ordered in-room dining & the person taking my order was thinking I am speaking Greek. Finally, she understood that I was using an old indoor dining menu menu. This is really weird for a 5-star hotel. First encounter for me as a fairly seasoned traveller.

Has any hotel staff tried the rain shower. It splashed everywhere but not down where it should be.

Yes, the buffet breakfast has a wide spread but truly lacks quality. When you are first seated at your table, the service staff does not take your beverage order immediately & you will need to catch another attendant's attention. Tried coffee the 1st morning & it was one of the worst coffee I have had. Next morning, I ordered a latte which showed a marked improvement.

The team at the business centre are very friendly. I cannot understand the rational of charging for use of the computer. But internet is free. Like everywhere else, charge for the Internet & printing. No one really wants to be hogging a computer for fun unless you really need it for mainly work.

Although the hotel is linked to Grand Indonesia, I would have to give Grand Hyatt & Plaza Indonesia the thumbs up for ease of access & retail franchise & therapy.

Generally the hotel needs finetuning on its service to be really ranked up there with other 5-star hotels in JKT.

Stayed there for a few nights, despite its high price (weekends are cheaper), but I loved their newly renovated rooms. Traditional Indonesian design blended perfectly with modern simplicity, creating a magnificent feel of the room. The location is of course perfect, connects directly with Grand Indonesia and is adjacent to Plaza Indonesia. Slight issues with the room are immediately fixed by a very helpful technician.
Breakfast is superb, with a friendly staff who is more than happy to help!

Room Tip: If at all possible request for the semi-suite, with twin beds. Bigger room and fantastic view of the...
