Came here on the advise of another. The front desk staff was friendly and gave us a menu of things to choose from. I only wanted a salt scrub - but that was not possible. I had to buy a complete package that included a foot soak, massage, shower, scrub, steam and flower bath. It seemed like good value - however, the only thing that was good was the massage. I went with a girlfriend and they asked it is was OK if we went together (she got a different package). We said OK, not knowing what this meant. The shower was in the middle of the room so you are naked showering in front of others. Ditto for the bath. I think that they asked us if we could go together so they could save the other room for additional guests (we DID make a reservation so it was not like we just walked in and asked for service). I should not have chosen the steam - what was I thinking! Well, I guess I was thinking about spas at home where you go into a nice room and have a steam. Instead it is in the same room, and it is a black plastic box that you sit in, all zipped up, and they pipe in steam with a vacuum like hose. There is no place to put your arms so they are resting on your body. There is no rest for your head or neck so you are forced to sit upright in a vinyl box with no support. Since it was outdoors (no a/c) I was sweating like a pig and there was no possibility to cool down afterwards. Do not know how clean this was and did not want to think about it. From there I went to the scrub - sweaty, salty body and all. There was a big gecko in the corner that had been bludgeoned to death lying in a pool of blood. They killed it but did not bother to pick it up. It was clearly visible. The massage was good. The scrub I was very disappointed with - there was little grit to it, and it was a dry salt procedure (I am used to ones that are in a wet room). Then you shower in the "communal" shower, and had a bath with flower pedals in it. Total was about $100 USD. The only value was the massage. Two days later we were at the Intercontinental hotel at Jimbaran beach and it had an excellent spa: clean, private, and the services much cheaper (I had reflexology and my friend had same, plus massage, facial and pedicure). I had assumed that it would be more so I went for my pamper day in Ubud. I would not go back to Bali Ratu - find another spa.
