“Great Tibetan Experience”
Reviewed June 7, 2013

We loved this hotel. We were looking for a taste of old Tibet and we found it! The room was spacious with Tibetan decor. The bath had recently been redone and was nice. The staff was very accommodating and worked hard to please, including opening for dinner for just two. The location is in the old city. You will wind through narrow streets and market areas to get here. Highly recommend.

We moved to the Shambhala Palace after one night at the Shambhala Hotel. The Shambhala Palace is the true Tibetan experience. The room is very spacious and very quiet at night. The breakfast was sparse but very good quality. We had trouble with one of the lights in the room and the staff came up immediately and worked out a solution even though the outlet in question was not functioning. The only drawback is all the construction in that area forced us to carry our bags for 15-20 minutes to reach our ride, but once all the construction is complete this will be the best hotel in Lhasa.

when we arrived i couldn't believe what a unique hotel this was to experience! right in the middle of the old town. the staff was very accomodating, the room was nice, and the restaurant was cozy for breakfast. the rooftop patio was a bonus for relaxing, but nothing beat the view of the potala palace from the shower in my room! two things to mention, though. there are several steps to climb to the rooms(someone will carry your bags up), and the beds are really firm. if you like a softer bed, it could get tricky dealing with altitude and sleeping comfortably. all in all, i really liked shambhala palace!!!

We stayed there for total of three nights at the start of October. The hotel is exactly what you would imagine for a Tibetan style lodge, very quite and peaceful. The room was great being very spacious and having all amenities needed, wifi works okay. Great views of the city on the rooftop. Staff was very friendly, service was attentive and trying their best to help out.
Only downside was the location -- it is located down a very quiet alley and most drivers don't really know the exact location i.e. a ten minute walk from the main street where you get on and off taxis and it does get dark at night but area is safe with police stations nearby the neighbourhood.
I would recommend to those wanting a touch of Tibetan tradition without having to pay a fortune.

I stated there for 2 nights, the hotel is atmospheric and centrally located. The manager L is very professional and responsible person. I was fed up by the car rental companies that I communicated before the trip, so I the manager assist me with transportation arrangement. We went to Namsto and Shiagatsi, the driver is very thoughtful and caring person. If I had a chance to go back, I will stay in the same hotel.

We moved here after one night at the Cool Yak because they had water problems. No regrets! This place is amazing, oozing with character and they have a lovely rooftop restaurant/bar with fantastic views of the Potala Palace and the mountains. We stayed here before leaving Lhasa for our long trip to Base Camp and Kailash and we had planned to stay here again upon our return to Lhasa but something happened and they had to shut down temporarily. So we had to choose another hotel. What a bummer! We were really looking forward to staying there again and we missed the rooftop. Worth every penny! And Jigmei at the Shambhala is very helpful and kind.

Shambala-Palace is for sure one of the best places to stay in Lhasa. For us is was simply perfect: located in the middle of the old part of the town, close to the Jokhang, incredible friendly and helpful staff, cosy and romantic rooms (clean and warm and with a lot of space for your stuff...), great view from the rooftop, very good breakfast,... Maybe the only little 'problem' is, that it's not too easy to find...
