If you are looking for the most modern hotel with every convenience, this isn't it. But, it has all that you need, good character, very nice staff, a quiet courtyard "oasis" with a good restaurant, excellent breakast, great yak burgers, rooms with character and wireless internet. It is just a block from the Bokhor Market and 10 minutes walk from the Potala. Rooms are set back from the main road around a courtyard, so they were fairly quiet.

I was prepared for an unimpressive hotel front, but the inside was very pleasant...simple and to the point, no nonsense clean and comfy. So the towel rack is coming off the wall, so what? I was glad we weren't on the third floor for our first stay. Not so happy with
the third floor room we had on our second stay as there didn't seem to be enough water pressure for a hot shower. Not picky about breakfast as there was enough to provide good nutrition. Menu for lunch and dinner is surprising good. I loved the Tibet set, and my daughter loved the Yak burger with fries. The garden/patio was wonderful..even came with an Illy coffee shack..but the local coffee (from India?) was quite good. Staff was
super friendly.

Do not get me wrong, its adequate, quaint, well located and even relatively cheap.

Do ask for a lower floor, 4th floor walk ups get old quick after a few days at that altitude.

Problems; we rarely had both hot and cold water at the same time. Oddly enough most of the time we had hot water only, actually too hot to take a shower. Often, no cold water not even enough to fill the toilet.

Although we were assured we had the “Best Room” it seemed more like a 2 star hotel with lots of rough edges.

They do have pretty good wifi internet, but no staff k the set up for it;

After some time i figured it out and FYI Its:
Security type: WPA-Personal
Encryption Type: TKIP,
Password they do know and will tell you: Was lhasa123 when i was there.

Bottom-line is the same line I started with; if this is best rated Hotel in Lhasa, Lhasa needs some new Hotels!

The Kyichu Hotel is a delight; we stayed twice in a month and the people were charming as is the hotel and it has a very very good restaurant and garden. Our first room needed a space heater which they brought but our second room had heat and was almost a suite. The location is an easy walk to the Jokhang Temple and Barkor Square where we spent most of our time, not in the Chinese area which is intrusive and stridently modern. The Tibetans are a warm strong people . WE love Tibet!

We stayed in 3 different rooms over 5 nights here. The rooms in general were a bit worn and the beds were as hard as any other in the country. Some rooms have a nice view out into the courtyard. The bathrooms are very tired. The toilet would flush about 70% of the time and the showers were hard to control temp and water flow. The restaurant had nice buffet breakfast choices and a variety of good tasting Tibetan, Nepali and Chinese dishes on their lunch/dinner menu. The service was friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a good location within an easy walk of the Potala palace and the main shopping market.

The Kyichu Hotel is a well run hotel with excellent staff that speak great English to help you hail a pedicab, give you directions for the correct bus to ride, or direct you to the easiest way to get to your destination.

We (my teenage daughter and mother) stayed for 7 days after arriving in Lhasa shortly after the torch relay. Even though they had no foreign guests since the March riots, they were willing to open their doors to us - even when many other hotels had closed. Felt very safe traveling on our own, especially when staying at the Kiyuchi. Inner courtyard was a quiet retreat and the front doors remained locked and guarded through the night.

The location is right off the Bhakor and there is a large supermarket and many restaurants very close by. It is also very close to the airport bus terminus. Waking each morning to the smell of incense in the halls in a warm and comfortable bed with hot running water made our journey all the better.

This hotel was beautiful and charming! The court yard was wonderful with it's old world charm. Each morning I rose to the sound of birds singing, and wonderful smells comming from Dottrine's kitchen!

The staff was friendly, welcoming, and spoke wonderful english. The atmosphere was inviting, and the food in the resturant was amazing!

Our 3rd floor room was CLEAN and comfortable. The bathroom was great with a tub, shower and pleanty of hot water (though it took a few min. to warm up.) But who's complaining!? It's Tibet!!!

They had an internet cafe with high speed internet, and the laundry service was fast and professional! The housekeeping was so great they didn't just tidy up, they even folded up the clothes I had left laying on the bed!

The location is just a few min. walk to Jukhang, the market, or the Potala, and the locals were so very friendly and excited to see us!

I have left a peice of my heart in Tibet and when I return I'll be staying at the Kyichu again!
