Owner description: Tibet Highland Tours, though not the largest company around, we are among the most experienced around. Our office managers have been working in tourism in Tibet for over 20 years and know all areas of Tibet extremely well. The company was started by local Tibetans, most of whom had been working for over 20 years already as tour guides, managers, and route builders. We can work with you to create the perfect itinerary suited specifically for you. Unlike many travel agencies that arrange tours to Tibet, we are not based in Beijing, Chengdu or Shanghai. We are based right in the heart of Lhasa, less than a 1 minute walk from Barkhor Square. All of our office staff, guides and drivers are Tibetans who are intimately familiar with Tibetan culture, language and religion. This gives us an advantage over most companies arranging travel to Tibet. Our company is not out just to make money. Our goal is to give back to as many poor Tibetan communities as possible. Several of our office staff are from remote, poor villages at the base of the Himalaya Mountains. A portion from each tour goes towards projects that we carry out in these communities.

Everyone from Tibet Highland Tours was very professional and easy to deal with. Despite me trying to organise a tour in the last minute, my permit was ready just in time and delivered to my address in Kunming even before I paid a cent. I didn't have to worry about anything. The price of the tour was very competitive and fair. I also appreciate the honesty of the company as they didn't try to charge me for things that don't cost them anything, as unfortunately this often happens in travel industry. Special thanks to our guide Jampa who is very knowledgable and helpful. Being a local Tibetan, she not only has a deep knowledge of Tibetan history, culture and religion, but also has a lot of friends among locals, which gave us opportunities to see and learn about things and places we didn't know existed. Jampa was very flexible and creative when things didn't go to plan, and she was always able to find a solution to any problem and accommodate our wishes. I highly recommend Tibet Highland Tours to anyone interested in visiting Tibet and highly recommend Jampa as a guide.

Trip was organized by Tibet Highland Tours company including agenda, professional guide support, logistics, lodging and meal. Would like to say all has been done with attitude and professional approach. I really enjoyed my time. On top of that would like to thank my guide Jampa: i got not only wide knowledge about country's history and religion but all the necessary support I needed during the visit. Thanks)).

Thanks to Tenzin who managed my trip organization and was patient and customer oriented.

Tibet Highland provided us with amazing service. We arrived shortly after the April earthquake and Tenzin helped us reroute and replan. Then later, they helped us arrange our outbound flights because Nepal was closed.

Tibet Highland management listens to your requests and will tailor your trip to meet your desires. We saw amazing scenery and had an unforgettable experience.

When booking your tour, talk to them about who your guide will be. As indicated in the Lonely Planet book, the quality of guides can vary significantly.

Highly recommended agency!

Hello,

We booked an 11 days tour to EBC with THT. It started well and then service went downhill at the end.
Here are the pros and cons of this tour operator.

Pros:
-Good english level of the guide and management
-No problems with permits
-Hotel in Lhasa and Shigatse ok
-Quick replies from management
-Good driver
-car had over 900 000 km but was ok

Cons:
-Really hard to get straight answers to questions and i am not talking about political stuff.
-Guide is not really interested in sharing knowledge and would answer lots of questions by "yes".
Would be late in the morning and would make us visit monastery without her.
-The itinerary that we chose did not happen. The agency has their own agenda and will try to cut cost with cheap tricks.
-No tents at EBC and guesthouse at EBC kicked us out cause we merged 2 single beds to make a double bed. (I doubt culture shock was the issue)
Guide and agency did Nothing...in fact they have been insistant all day not to sleep there, I suspect it was another cheap trick to make us go to the hotel they wanted.
We were very desapointed not to be able to stay at EBC for sunrise.
-After that day, the guide simply stopped talking for the next 4 days.
-No chance of refund from management and no attemps to compensate in any ways.
-Agency asks for the total amount at start of trip...it was a mistake from our part.

Tibet is great and and I bet that with a good guide and agency, its even greater.

Have fun!

Mat

We are sorry to hear that your recent journey to Tibet did not go as well as you expected. Our agency has an excellent safety record. We make sure that all of our vehicles are in top working order. Some of our Land Cruisers have had engines replaced to make sure that they remain in top working order, which is very common in Tibet.

We apologize for the way the guesthouse at EBC treated you. We have had guests stay there countless times over the years without incident, however, we will be sure to look into this matter to make sure there are no issues with beds in the future.

Similar to taking a cruise or buying an airplane ticket, we do require our guests to pay for their tour before they depart. This has been customary in Tibet (and most of the world) for many years. If you have any other questions regarding your recent journey with us, please do not hesitate to contact us by email.

Sincerely,
Tenzin
