“Amazing stay and friendly staff!”
Reviewed June 15, 2014

Booked this on Booking.com, easy and good price! The staff served us hot tea upon arrival ! The cat in the hotel is super cute as well. Location is perfect, lots of restaurants and shops around the corner and very safe area too. One of the Chinese speaking staff even waited for us at 2am as we went out clubbing with our guide! Extremely nice of her! Breakfast is simple but you can easily eat elsewhere. Room could be a bit dim but if you just need a hot shower and clean toilet, it's perfect.

We requested this hotel from our Chinese travel agent from reading the reviews, but were very disappointed. We stayed here 4 nights altogether with 3 nights in one room and another night when we returned in a different room.
The first room was like a cave, cold, with hardly any natural light. The small heater took a long time to heat up the room and the 'humidifier' was useless. The bathrooms have a crazy design, so when you have a shower everything, including the toilet gets wet. It was the hardest bed in our 5 week trip through China and Tibet.
Breakfast was very basic and when we tried to have dinner there after a long day we were told the cook had gone. When we had an early start they complained that they didn't like serving breakfast before 8am.
The manager/owner spoke good English but the rest of the staff had very limited or no English.
The second room was a little better. It was an internal room but at least had some natural light from the atrium that is in the middle of the 5 storey building. Not at all private though, as people walked past the windows to get to their rooms.
Location was great as it was close to Barkhor St., supermarket and restaurants. The views from the rooftop are amazing. Free wi-fi in room.
The hotel is quaint but when you return tired from tripping around, huffing and puffing up the stairs, a comfortable room is all you need, not a dark cold room.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with natural light.

We stayed 4 nights at the Tashitakge hotel. It was a comfortable and welcoming place. The staff were nice and the manager spoke very good english. The room was cosy and clean. Located near Bahkor Square, shopping was convenient. The roof top offers a good view of Lhasa.

the location of the hotel is a positive otherwise only rates an average, room was small and bathroom needs updating, toilet paper in short supply, saw many patrons requesting more, the breakfast was bland and ordinary. id look elsewhere.

The first to realise is this guesthouse is a 5 story walk up building (no lifts), which anywhere else would not be a problem. However when new to Lhasa and the altitude you do absolutely lose your breath climbing up to your room on the higher floors. The hotel is setup around the central atrium, which lets in lots of light throughout the building, and all the rooms face in towards the courtyard.

The rooms are basic, but clean. The bedding is clean and there are many blankets and layers to keep your warm at night.

The bathroom is basic, but the water is hot and the shower is decent.

There is a restaurant offering good breakfast options, and a nice rooftop where you can sit outside and enjoy the views around you. Wifi is also available.

Great value budget hotel especially with the low winter rates.
Positives: great location, friendly helpful staff, hot water for bathing and excellent wifi reception in room 406, which was nicely decorated room and very quiet (one night I was the only guest there).
Negatives: the electric space heater works fine only if you're within an arm's length of it. The door to the bathroom was the wrong size and couldn't be closed. The restaurant was closed for the winter but I could use the electric kettle to make coffee & oatmeal from packets and there were plenty of restaurants nearby for lunch and dinner--some where tea and noodles could be had for as little as 11RMB.
