“Confucius got modern”

Confucian Temple Area (Fuzi Miao)
Reviewed February 28, 2014

The area still retains the charm but it is quite commercialized. I would recommend the restaurants around the area. They have a good selection of restaurants nearby serving Nanjing specialties.

As night markets and pedestrian streets go, the one here is very poor and dirty. Near the front gate, you have your KFCs, McD and Pizza Hut and a Haagen Daazs. Going deeper in, you get the local Chinese brands.

Only in the alleyways you get the feel of a night market but as souvenirs go, you can get most of the tat in any other tourist market in China. However, Nanjing is famous for their YuHua (Rain Flower) stones so maybe worth purchasing as something different.

In terms of the Confucius Temple, I was interested in finding out more history about him and also the temple - a major disappointment. RMB 40 for entrance (at night) - cheaper during the day. At night they turn on all the lanterns and paper puppets. Some parts are interesting but it looks so commercialised that you don't get a feel of a temple and also of the famous history of Confucius.

However, as a night spectacle to take young children, this may be of interest but for adults maybe a bit too tacky.

Another note is that the food in this whole area is bad. I'm certain they just provide as cheap quality food as they can as visitors are unlikely to complain or pass through again. I eat a lot of street food as well as try local food but this was disappointing.

Overall, the whole area, along with the temple is not a place I would recommend or choose to visit again.

A crowded place but at the same time contains rich ancient cultural heritage within its boundaries.
Nanjing city represents its glorious history as ancient capital of China when Chinese civilization flourished under different Dynasties
If you are not bothered by lot of people around then you can amuse yourself being a part of that en you can enjoy lots of multinational food chains to take care of your appetite.

Nice place to visit, but it is too crowded. There was some part under construction also. The temple itself is quite good, but the area is not so nice: it is made just for tourist, full of shops and commercial brand place where to eat and buy stuffs. Other night market I visited are far better.

Lots of shopping. Interesting people watching. Currently under construction. Not as grubby as other night markets I have visited.
