This is an expansive area but the views are spectacular when there is not a lot of smog. The memorial is interesting and the park around it is beautiful.

Took a train from Shanghai to Nanjing and made sure I booked my return ticket straight away, just before leaving Nanjing Long Distance Train Station.

Caught a train into town and then a bus to the outer part of the mausoleum. There are a few stairs to walk up, but once at the top their are some wonderful views and the ability to see the resting place of Dr Sun Yat Sen. I enjoyed the trip and bought some interesting history books about the Dr.

Be careful when travelling during the China national holidays. I could not get on a bus back to the centre of the city for 3 hours.

basically this is in the middle of the city next to Deiji plaza, it's just a statue, the area could be considered Nanjing's fifth avenue in NYC.

Despite the stairs (The Great Wall though is much worse) which take some pleasure out of this mausoleum, this is truly a good place to learn more about Dr Sun Yat Sen. Be prepared for at least 300+ stairs as you climb your way to the top to the mausoleum and see Dr Sun Yat Sen's final resting place. The scenery as you climb gets bigger and better and show a backdrop of an important cultural city of China. The best way to get this location is by taxi, should take no more than 15 to 20 mins from the cbd.

This is like the Lincoln Memorial of China. We climbed a great number of steps to see the mausoleum, and saw a lot of great scenic views, but there wasn't much history for the westerner. It has much more meaning for the Chinese, obviously. Go to teh Presidential Compound in Nanjing City instead if you must make a choice.
