“Need to go see - and do read about the ships”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2013

Gavin Menzies' book "1421" describes the voyages. Aspects of the book are speculative and some details are circumstantial, but the author is passionate about the story and I was delighted to have read the book before visiting the park. The replica vessel is worth a visit, and the environment is pleasant, but the interpretation is minimal and - after nearly ten years - the quality of the presentation is starting to deteriorate. I hope the city will restore and augment the displays; it was an extraordinary part of China's history.

“Tired Treasure but Great History”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 30, 2012

Looked a little tired and neglected. Some of the exhibit halls were closed. Some construction under way. But great historical value. Very informative. Map/fountain needs to be restored because it is very cool. Open the halls.

“Small but interesting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 18, 2010

This museum is as interesting for the light is shines on the use of history in China as for its information about Zheng He and the treasure ships. The highlights are the repilac of one of his ships, and the very nationalistic comments in the explanatory texts.

The museum is situated on the former docks where the treasure ships were built 600 years ago. While the number of exhibits is small, every visitor to Nanjing should take teh hour or so it takes to visit this place. If you haven't heard of Zheng He you will be informed, and if you have you will learn more about the ships and how these voyages are being used to foment pride in China today.

“Exciting and Informative”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 6, 2010

Zheng He was such an inspirational person, coming from a small village to becoming one of the greatest 'explorers'/'navigators in history.

It was exciting to be in such an informative place that provides so many visuals of his adventures. It seems that almost every place he visited was captured in a bronze impression. With everyone one of these bronze plaques there is a poem highlighting his experience there.

There are also really great maps of his pathways throughout Asia and Africa. You'll also find a replica of one of his mid-sized treasure boats, which you can board.

One of the coolest parts of this place is that there are four ponds, one of which the boats would dock and have repairs done. There have been archaeological finds here related to Zheng He and his trips.

It is definitely a unique place that one should check out if they love travel, adventure, exploration and learning about unique prestigious figures in history. PLUS, its really cheap, just Y20 to get in.
