“Amazing "pure vegetarian" shanghainese food restaurant”
Reviewed September 2, 2012

This is simply a great great restaurant - amazingly busy. We went on a weekday with a reservation, and still had to wait for 15-20 minutes - it was that busy !

Their vegetarian food is an amazing and refreshing change from the predominant non-vegetarian cuisine prevalent in Hong Kong. If you are vegetarian, or want to try veggie food, then this is a must visit for you.

However, the ambience is noisy at best, and the service could be better I guess - both are factors of the large number of covers there. If these are your primary considerations, then this place is not for you.

“Very interesting restaurant”
Reviewed June 15, 2012

This is a totally vegetarian restaurant. Most of the stuff is made "meat-like" with Tofu.
So, for example, we had Shark-fin soup made with tofu, etc.

We enjoyed most of the food. There was a couple of things that unsettled our stomach. We could not pinpoint as we were new to this kind of food.

Overall very very enjoyable experience. We went with a bunch of friends.
Save room for the dessert!

They have tables with great views of the harbor!

“Never eaten vegetarian food? Start here!”
Reviewed June 1, 2012

Kung Tak Lam Shanghai Vegetarian Restaurant, 7/F, New Town Plaza Phase 1, 18 Sha Tin Centre Shatin, Hong Kong

We have eaten in three branches of this restaurant in Hong Kong – Causeway Bay, Tsim Sha Tsui and Shatin. The quality of the food is very good – the flavours belie the ‘vegetarian’ image. Our favourite dishes are ‘mushrooms and cashew nuts with a spicy sauce’ (outstanding) and ‘ham’ rolls with a pak choi vegetable. If you have never eaten vegetarian food before, this is a good place to start.

A hint: if you go to the Shatin restaurant, ask for a table which is not near an air conditioning unit. On one visit we had a table below one of the units and it was so cold that it was uncomfortable. In addition the food did not remain warm long enough for us to eat and enjoy it.

If you want a meal with a view, choose the Tsim Sha Tsui or Causeway Bay branches.

It is wise to reserve a table during lunch and evening times.

“Lots and lots of choice for what to eat but sauces very similar”
Reviewed March 27, 2012

If you want a veggie seafood platter, sweet and sour pork, sharksfin soup (yes really) you've got to try. Brash Chinese style fluorescent lighting but made up for by the view of the harbour. Pricey but big portions.
