Let me preface this review by saying I did not stay here. I just sat in the peaceful, air-conditioned and civilized lobby twice to escape the oppressive, sweltering humidity that comes with July in Hong Kong. The second time I had an iced coffee. Usually, I take no sugar with my coffee, but they served it with a little pitcher of simple syrup, I JUST HAD to have some to see what it was all about! Delicious! And no waiting for annoying crystals of sugar to dissolve. Light bulb! I just thought of it now, they probably cannot keep granulated sugar free-flowing, what with the humidity and all. The simple syrup is the Peninsula's refined solution to a pesky situation. The kids all had iced chocolate, and it came with a little chocolate cake. No complaints from the kids.
