Our hotel was in this area and thought it would be nice to be able to just wander around to look for a restaurant without booking, but we didn't realise that it really was an expat area. Finding anything Cantonese or Chinese at all was virtually impossible. It's possible that the restaurants were very good (the many Lebanese restaurants smelled great) but we weren't in Hong Kong for European food - nor, frankly, to hear Aussie, British and American drunks shouting from every bar - we currently live in Bangkok and can get plenty of that here if we want it!
If you're going to Hong Kong for 'night life' and want to be stumbling distance from the bars, this is the area to be (but do be careful, it's very hilly.)
