“Very nice local HK style desserts”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

We recently had dessert at a local Honeymoon Dessert branch and as usual, we quite enjoyed our time and desserts there. This is a local Hong Kong company that has franchised all over the territory now, specializing in serving up Hong Kong style fruit and pudding based desserts usually mixed with various jellies and yummy bits which serve to form some very interesting and delicious treats. We particularly like their mango based desserts. Serving sizes are quite large so you might want to consider just sharing one dessert between two diners.

Honeymoon Dessert shops are often crawling with locals, a usual testimony to the popularity of the Honeymoon Dessert franchises, particularly amongst the younger crowds. Orders are taken at the table, if you can find one and you are given a long menu list with up to 60+ dessert options. Recently we ordered (1) Grass Jelly & Red Bean Soup with Vanilla Ice Cream (HK$26) which is a nice combination of the red bean and vanilla flavors mixed with the nice texture of the grass jelly. This is more of a local Chinese flavored dessert that might not be enjoyed so much be those with more of a western palate. We enjoy this desset (rating 3 of 5) but its not our favorite on offer at Honeymoon Desserts.

We also ordered (45) Thai Black Glutinous Rice with Mango and Vanilla Sauce (HK$30) which is a local version of the classic Thai mango and sticky rice served with coconut milk. We really enjoyed this dessert, particularly the shaved ice, soaked in vanilla sauce which worked quite well with the glutinous rice and its hints of red bean flavor. The mango served was not the nicest this time around but good enough. Overall, this was a very good dessert (rating 3.5 of 5), which will be ordered again.

Overall, Honeymoon Dessert is a nice option for those that want to sample a local Hong Kong style desserts while visiting the city.

“Authentic HK desserts for the sweet-toothed”
Reviewed July 29, 2012 via mobile

If you like traditional Hong Kong style desserts, come in groups of at least three so you can try their signature desserts without getting a sugar overload. The walnut paste and sesame paste were served piping hot and tasted smooth, rich and fragrant. The double boiled milk and egg white was served chilled and not too sweet so if you want a nutritious dessert without the guilt this is it. Baked sago pudding is rich and filling so have this last - only two spoonfuls max or you won't have room for anything else. HK summer favourite - mango pomelo dessert here is great as they are very generous with the sweet pomelo sacs. In most dessert shops looking for real pomelo sacs is sometimes like a treasure hunt. Best of all, there is a myriad of toppings (such as sago beads, mochi, crushed peanuts, etc etc) that you can pick from to customize each type of dessert to your fancy. Easy on the pocket, plus cheerful crew.

“Local HK Dessert!”
Reviewed May 23, 2012

I have always found Hong Kong desserts innovative and in a way very Hong Kong - the fusion of everything. Go try this place and you will see how creative the chefs are in dealing with the sweets. Eg. Durian pancake/ some random black and white sweet soup... The traditional Chinese/ Cantonese desserts are indeed delicious too - if you dare to try them all.

“Pillows of Heaven”
Reviewed May 21, 2012

The Mango Pillows which are actually mango in cream wrapped in Crepe shaped into fluffy pillows. It's so good, we often buy in numbers so we can eat it everyday in the hotel during our stay. Some of my brothers love the Durian Pillows..but to each his own. :)
