Decided to try this place after reading reviews on TA but we were very disappointed.

As other reviewers have commented, the service is terrible. There were 2 ladies sitting next to us and the first had finished her dish a good 10 minutes before her friend received hers.

Our biggest problem however was the food. Perhaps we ordered 'the wrong thing' but the Sesame Chicken had almost no edible chicken in it ... It was almost completely skin and bones. It was so bad that my husband refused to pay for it.

If your looking for somewhere with out any other westerners in it and only locals this is the place for you. Food was good. Very quick service. But we did get a helping hand from a local to what we should get. must try this place!

I first experienced Good Satay in 2009 during my second visit to

this fine city. It was listed in Lonely Planet, not expensive, so I

gave it a try. At that time, aside from perfectly good food, what

intrigued me the most was that this restaurant takes up more than

one space on the floor where and it resides in this building. What I

mean to say is that the dining areas are not contiguous.

I do not remember exactly what was ordered in that first visit. But

I do remember is that there was a substitution made which, I'm sure

was perfectly acceptable in their eyes, of a frankfurter in place of

one of the other meats. :O

Other than that, the food was very authentic and tasty-and

reasonable in price.

Another thing that is of note is that I was the only Anglo in the

place, which I consider to be a good sign.

At that point in time I made a note to self: come back here next

December 2011: next time has arrived.

I'm visiting Hong Kong with friends and emphatically suggest that we

take in Good Satay after an afternoon at the Museum of Science.

Once again, we were the only foreigners.

We ordered the Satay Sampler (photo), Curried Fish, Chicken in

Pandan Leaves (photo) (my choice here, as I love to taste the

infusion garnered from the leaves), Coconut Rice, Garlic Rice, and

the Red Bean and Coconut Milk Dessert.

The order was delivered and stages, and in no particular order, you

should know to expect that upon your visit. This is not uncommon.

Everything, without exception, was delicious.

Another important thing to make note of is that the food quality was

very high.

The Satay Sampler, which consisted of chicken, pork, and beef, was a

bit more pungent than I was used to, but was very good.

The Curried Fish was prepared from what was clearly a fresh catch,

and the sauce was spicy but not to excess. Good blend of spices,

good fire, the perfect amount of coconut milk, no problems here.

Now, we get to the Chicken in Pandan Leaves. My choice. I was not

disappointed. I have had pandan flavoring in pastries, drinks, and

desserts here in the US and Philippines, but never anything prepared

from the actual leaves of the plant, much less a savory item. What a

delight! Dark meat chicken, probably thigh meat, chopped up into

bits, marinated, wrapped in the pandan leaves, then apparently

deep-fried. But not so deep-fried as to leave the wrapping crunchy

and nondescript. In other words, just right. The Pandan essence

permeated the meat just so.
The Coconut Rice and Garlic Rice were both unique and very

flavorful. Almost, but not quite unlike any of the other versions I

had experienced.

In summation, everything we had we would order again and again and

This may not be the best ot its type in Hong Kong, but for the

price, there is no equal.

I, for one, will be here every time I visit this city.

We were a group of 8 and ordered a variety of menu items to share. Everything was pretty tasty and we had no complaints. It really is a bit of a hole in the wall so don't go expecting some nice restaurant atmosphere but the food and price make it worth a visit if you crave this type of food. The lineup was down the hall when we left.

I went with friends who had studied in Singapore and we were looking for somewhere different to eat. We shared Hainan chicken rice, laksa, and a shrimp with omelet dish. The chicken rice was very good and I highly recommend it for people who can't handle "exotic' tastes. There were enough options for people who dislike coconut.
