“nice sashimi with reasonable price”
Reviewed March 19, 2013

For a nice japanese meal can be cost a lots. Sen ryo is not a very fancy or fine place, but what they offer is on the level - sashimi is fresh, both sushi and sashimi are at the right temperature and service is good.

Lunch for 2 with some premium sushi like toro and wagyu, was cost $4xx. Really not bad.

“Great quality at a decent price”
Reviewed February 2, 2013

This place continually exceeds expectations. You can spend a lot of money here if you want, but you can also have an excellent meal without spending too much. We've easily spent, between two of us, $500+, but on other occasions have managed to only spend $250, which is great for the amount and freshness.

The spicy salmon gunkan is one of my favourites. Agree with one of the posters below that the toro is not fantastic.

Central appears to be one of the busiest locations, which is consistent with the level of service we received there (forgetting our orders, our order taking over 30 minutes to arrive etc - which is ridiculous at a sushi restaurant). The service in the other locations is decent, with food arriving quickly.

Get here early or late to avoid queues, as it is extremely popular. You can get here a bit earlier, put your telephone number into their waiting system, collect a numbered ticket and then leave, so you'll get a call when your ticket number is nearing. Arriving early/late applies to all the branches of Sen Ryo - at least on Hong Kong Island.

“Fresh and tasty!”
Reviewed January 3, 2013

If you enjoy sushi then this restaurant is worth the wait (although IFC has the worst waiting times of all the Sen Ryo). The fish is fresh and the restaurant offers a nice variety of predominantly raw sushi and sashimi. This chain of restaurants do not do your typical "western" sushi with flaked tuna and teriyaki chicken sushi, so if that is what you are expecting you will be disappointed. However if you love good quality raw fish such as tuna, salmon, yellow tail, etc, then this restaurant is definitely worth trying. They have a range of tuna varying in fat content, and the semi-fatty tuna is normally very nice. My children LOVE the prawn tempura sushi. They do seasonal speciality sushi, which are generally not on the menu but worth keeping an eye out for on the 'train'.
They offer a 'train' with sushi and sashimi going past you, however you can also order off the menu and as most of the menu has pictures, language is not an issue. The majority of the restaurant is bar style side-by side seating facing the train however they do have a few booths; some have the sushi go past, others do not. Booths are much easier and have better space if you have your children with you, however double your wait time if you ask for one specifically in most cases (especially in IFC).
Pricing for most of the sushi and sashimi is based on plate colours, however if you order off the menu they will normally just add these items to your bill rather than pile plates in front of you. Green tea is free and you can constantly top up, as is wasabi, soy and ginger.

One thing to remember is that all chains are not created equal. The best Sen Ryo (for taste and quality) is in Times Square in Causeway Bay, however the IFC one would be my second choice. For quality sushi at a non-premium price then this is the chain of restaurants to look at in Hong Kong.

Top picks: fatty salmon, semi-fatty tuna, Spicy salmon roll, tempura prawn roll sushi, western style octopus sushi (warning - this can be too chewy for some people)

“long wait - great sushi/sashimi”
Reviewed November 6, 2012

it is a busy place and you will get a number for waiting until a table or seat at the conveyer belt is free. We waited approx. 40Min and got 2 seats at the belt, a bit too cramped ! Tea is free as you have the hot water right in front of you as a tap and the tea as instant as well.
Sushi and sashimi were excellent, mainly cold versions but you could order from the menu only that the space for your food is very limited at the Bar. But excellent quality and fair priced, in fact for an European kind of cheap and that is in the high-end IFC mall.

“Excellent - medium to high quality”
Reviewed October 31, 2012 via mobile

Obviously cannot be compared to places like Zuma and similar but excellent quality.

The place is rather small so make a reservation in advance.

The food is excellent. Not the best toro (fatty tuna) but excellent for the price. Visited this place thrice during my trip.

Waiters are friendly but generally rushed. Seems like everyone already knows what they'll be ordering anyways.

There's a lever at the table. Hot water comes out. They give you a drinking glass and there's a pot of green tea on the table.

Like this if toy benefitted.
