We popped in here for an early dinner after a day of exploring in Stanley.

We grabbed the only available outside table as it was busy on the weekend and from the start the service was fantastic.

We had the Chicken Wings and Quesadillas to start which were brilliant and generous portions, followed by the Salmon Sandwich and Burger, both of which we couldn't fault.

Not the cheapest but in some respect you are paying for the location as well as the food and great service and it's in a fab spot on Stanley Promenade to sit and chill and watch the world go by, well worth a visit if you are in Stanley.

Had a relaxing lunch at the Boathouse. Many years ago, I tried the mussels in white wine and garlic. This time, I ordered the same and the standard is still there, the taste of the mussels was how I remembered them to be. Porccini soup was delicious and the portion was enough for two.

Thank Thermometer

This was not our first choice for lunch, but the Japanese restaurant next door was no longer there, and we didn't fancy the choice of pubs along Stanley Main Street. The outside of the building is a rather tired blue, but don't let that put you off. The nicest seating is available on the terrace upstairs. Unfortunately, it was full when we arrived, but we were just inside and still had a lovely view of the sea (despite the rather cloudy weather). We ordered a bucket of spicy, herby chicken wings as a starter and drinks, which came quickly. The wings arrived piping hot and, although we expected about four, the bucket seemed endless. Delicious! After that, a table opened up outside on the terrace and there we enjoyed our main course of beer-battered fish and chips served with malt vinegar, my favourite, and tartare sauce, and a steak sandwich with fries. I would have preferred my batter slightly crisper, but it was still very tasty and hot. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his steak sandwich too. The prices were reasonable, the portions generous, and the service pleasant. This is a restaurant to take your time and enjoy the view. The terrace is definitely the most attractive part of the restaurant, but if you're downstairs and the sun is shining it can be a delightful sun-trap.

The boathouse is right on the corner of the seafront road at Stanley. I passed through here midweek for lunch with a friend, having had lunch here one before about 5 years ago. It didn't disappoint! We had a table up on the first floor balcony overlooking the bay. The view is lovely, especially on a warm sunny lunchtime. We both ordered the fish & chips, which arrived quickly and piping hot. The fish consisted of three-to-four large chunks in a golden batter... the portions are ample! All washed down with a pint of Tetlelys bitter, served icy cold.

Food and beer excellent; good value and superb location. I'll be back!

First visit to Stanley for me but the oenophile Scot, who used to work in HK, was horrified by how built up it has become. However, we found The Boathouse, managed to get a table on the first floor balcony with a gorgeous view of the bay, and as the chilled white was being poured equilibrium was restored. There is a menu of pub classics (and the portions are huge) but we went for the shellfish bucket (mussels, clams and prawns), which was just perfect. Great service and a fabulous location. One tip: Don't queue to sit outside at street level. The views from upstairs are better!
