Description: With its contemporary French cuisine and stunning harbour views, the 1-Michelin star and Forbes Travel Guide Five-star SPOON by Alain Ducasse is one of Hong Kong and Asia's most sought-after dining experiences. SPOON showcases a seductive menu and wine list --- all with French nuances inspired by world famous chef Alain Ducasse. Designed by Tony Chi, SPOON has a contemporary decor with subdued earth tones and stunning views of Hong Kong Island and Victoria Harbour. Of particular note is the ceiling, which is adorned with 550 hand-blown Murano mercury glass spoons. A unique blend of textures are incorporated into the decor with a rust-coloured leather Bar, modern French provencial chairs covered in eel skin fabric at the SPOON Bar and real mink cushions adorning the banquettes . Meanwhile, soft touches in the restaurant, including the uniforms and tabletops, reflect a style which perfectly personifies French elegance. The SPOON Private Dining Room offers an ideal setting for dinner parties for up to 14 guests. SPOON's exclusive Chef's Table, with its bird's eye view of the open kitchen in action, provides the ultimate in private dining for up to 6 guests --- with a tailor-made menu created and presented personally by SPOON Executive Chef Stephane Gortina. Open Tuesday - Sunday for dinner and on Sundays for lunch.

“Great sauces!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013

Excellent food service. Lots of advice and explanation re food. Wine service less interested in us than they should have been. Setting is superb, with HK harbour view. Food was very good but not as extravagant as I might have expected - French twists on very fresh ingredients with the classic sauces really being the star here. Really enjoyable experience over all. And the view...

“A nice meal, harbor view”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2013 via mobile

I wasn't expecting an amazing meal so I wasn't disappointed. Setting and decor is elegant and subtle. Service is pretty good but sommelier could try harder. I had a steamed fois gras first dish, not sure I am convinced that this is the best way to prepare it. I also had a rabbit cassoulet which was hearty but a bit too salty. Overall pleasant but not sure about the 2 stars.

“Brilliant”

This is everything you expect from a 2 Michelin star restaurant. The food is superb and the views across the harbour provide an amazing backdrop to dinner

“As good as it gets!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 7, 2012

I had gone to Spoon soon after it opened and was very turned off... it was the "hot place" to go in Hong Kong and like many restaurants in Hong Kong, you wree given a reservation and told when you had a to vacate the table. Having accepted this found that the tables were too close together, full of people wanting to see and be seen. The menu was very complicated and at the end of the day, it was just too much work for just okay food. However, the restaurant sat on the Harbour and the view of HK Island was fabulous... however, not THAT good that I ever went back until earlier this month.

I had visitors in town and figured I'd put up with it for the view... have to say that rarely have I ever been so pleasantly surprised! The views are the same but the menu is fabulous and the service is among the best I have ever experienced (and I travel a lot) and certainly THE best I have had in Hong Kong.

The ambience is wonderful, the menu selection was great and the thee presentation of the food is lovely. The wine list is extensive with a wide range of pricing. The service was nothing less than fabulous... attentive without being obtrusive or annoying. And each guest was sent home with a little box of sweets.

People who live on HK Island tend to treat Kowloon like Manhattanites treat outer boroughs and visitors who stay on the island very often fdon't venture out to the "other side" but this restaurant is exceptional and well worth the trip.

“Second average experience at Alain Ducasse restaurant”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 4, 2012

I wonder if I'm asking for too much if I expect to be overwhelmed by a michelin-star restaurant. After being underwhelmed by the sister Alain Ducasse outlet in London, I decided to give the chef a second chance. And both times, I went for the chef set. It affirmed that I was right the first time.
It is good cooking but I expect more especially considering the price. So I will wave goodbye to Alain Ducasse brand. Brands are either a sign of strength or a sign of consistent averages. So AF is the latter.
