I was craving for Savoie food so decided to come here to celebrate my birthday.
Located in Peninsula so service is guaranteed excellent.
Decor was in authentic Savoie style.
Wine selection was great. We ordered a medium-priced french red recommended by the server and it was very nice!
Two of us ordered baked mushroom and Chesa air-dried beef, ham and sausage platter for starter and raclette for main course. Mushroom was very good. The selection of meat tasted authentic!
Tomme cheese used for raclette was definitely of high quality. It tasted even better than those I had in Savoie!
I am glad I don't need to go all the way to Savoie for the food!

The Peninsular Hotel is a grand old institution in Kowloon; one you will either love or hate. It has several restaurants, all of them of high quality, but with fairly high prices to match. We chose Chesa, which is an accurate representation of a Swiss restaurant in the Valaisienne style.
I mean by this that the interior was an accurate replica of a typical small restaurant in that area and that the a la carte menu contained a typical array of Swiss dishes. It was in fact quite bizarre to walk from the Hong Kong heat into an environment redolent of winter and skiing holidays .
The interior is nicely decorated in that Swiss style, with plenty of space between tables, with large comfy dining chairs.
Our waiters were all polite and dealt with variations from the menu swiftly, remembered everything we asked and brought it in a timely fashion.
The food was nearly all excellent, with a great rack of lamb, authentic pike-perch fillets and a lovely dessert of apple tart and berry compote, cooked fresh for us. Only one dish was a let-down. My business partner, who is something of a mushroom connoisseur, said that his mushroom ragout appetizer was bland and tasteless. We informed the head waiter and it was quickly removed from the bill, with alternatives offered.
All-in-all, we enjoyed an excellent meal, with well-cooked food and high quality European wines available by the glass or bottle. I would certainly recommend it as an unusual and pleasurable alternative in a city dominated by Chinese, Italian and American cuisine.

Once you enter the restaurant, it's like you've stepped into a nice cozy Alpine chalet. Romantic atmosphere, polite staff, yummy Swiss food!

Don't miss the cheese fondue with Gruyère, Emmental and Appenzeller. Really good! We also had a summer salad, crabmeat pancake and the veal.
