“Hotel good, customer service bring it down a notch!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

We checked in and were greeted by a very pleasant agent. Our room was wonderful, small but with a harbor view. The only issue was the black mold around the air exchanger and my husband made sure maintenance cleaned it up as I have a mold allergy. We decided to go to MoMo for lunch. The buffet was not something we were interested in but we ordered from the menu, the food was good but service was almost non-existent. We went to the lounge for coffee and the two girls at the desk never acknowledged us. We helped ourselves to coffee and water and enjoyed the view. That evening we went to the lounge again for the light supper. This was the worst buffet in Marriott history of lounges. There was no customer service, only wine or beer and if it ran out you had to search someone out to open another bottle of wine. The food selection was minimal. We experienced the same lack of service the next day. my key stopped working in the elevator and since I was on the lounge floor, I returned to the lounge. Even tho I had just left they would not let me in because my key didn't work. After pounding on the door, the girl answered and informed me that she could not replace the key. Again in the evening, it seemed to be a chore for anyone in the lounge to give any type of customer service. We tried MoMoonce again and the service was worse, we didn't know that could be possible We asked for our check for 30 minutes from anyone that walked by us as we never saw our waitress. We are leaving this hotel today and going to another hotel in the city where hopefully the service will be better.

Room Tip: Ask for a harbor view room!

Very good value in American style hotel on Hong Kong island. Not the most central location, but not the worst either. Walking distance to Hong Kong Central and the Star Ferry terminal. Interesting working district of Hong Kong. Victoria Peak is right up the hill behind the hotel. Beware - weekend rates are significantly higher than weekday rates.

Room Tip: Request a room up high with a harbor view - spectacular expecially at night.

My wife and I decided to stay at the Courtyard Hong Kong for a four day "stay over" vacation on our return trip from Singapore and we could not have made a better choice. Let's get the first thing out of the way ... the location. As other reviewers have said, the Courtyard Hong Kong is not in the heart of downtown Hong Kong but the area around the hotel is not a desert. There are several excellent restaurants within a five or ten minute walk; I would especially recommend Grassroots Pantry, where the food is excellent, the staff is extremely helpful and the proprietrix was born in Canada, raised in California and has a most interesting "Valley girl" accent that I confess I did not expect to hear on that side of the Pacific Ocean.

But if you want to go to "downtown" on Hong Kong Island, it really is not that far. First of all, there is a Tram station that is literally less than 150 feet (45 meters) from the hotel entrance that will take you to the central city in ten minutes or so for HK$ 2.30 (about $0.30 US). But if you don't want to spend the US$ 0.30 and/or have more than ten minutes to spare, you can walk to the Central District in about 30 minutes; more if you meander along the way. My wife and I did that several times during our stay. It is a very pleasant walk that gave us an opportunity to enjoy the "ambiance" of Hong Kong, catching some of the store fronts and native local vendors (and authentic Hong Kong souvenirs) that you will not find elsewhere. And if even that does not suit you, there is a free shuttle that leaves the hotel about every 30 minutes or you can even take a taxi.

As for the hotel itself, to begin, the views are fantastic. It is my understanding that all the rooms have a view to the harbor but we were fortunate enough to have a corner room, so we not only had a view of Victoria Harbor and Kowloon but also of the mountains. And as nice as the view is during the day, it is spectacular at night; especially with the International Commerce Centre (ICC) in Kowloon putting on its own light show. The rooms themselves are a bit on the smallish side but they are very modern, clean and (despite their small size) airy. This last is probably due to the fact that most of the walls are glass, with electronic shades for your privacy (and completely blocking out the light from the city below). The wall between the bedroom and bathroom is also an interesting glass/mirror combination that opens up the area but have no fear, it too has a shade that can be pulled down for your privacy. And, of course, there is the requisite wireless (and possibly wired, too, although I personally did not check) Internet access, flat screen television, and plenty of plugs to power and/or recharge your cell phones, cameras, Ipads, laptops, and other electronic equipment.

The hotel restaurant has an excellent selection and is, in my opinion, very reasonably priced. Moreover, as a Marriott Platinum member, you get a 20% discount. Most importantly, the french fries are excellent: as an American, good french fries are a necessity for me.

But what really sets the Courtyard Hong Kong apart is the staff. My wife and I arrived early, about 10:30am, and although several rooms were available, a room on the top floors (my preference) was not ready: perfectly understandable. We decided to wait until a room at a higher floor, so we checked our luggage with the concierge and went to the Sixth Floor Executive Lounge. We barely had time to get a soda (all gratis, of course, as it is the Executive Lounge) and turn on the television before we we were told that our luggage was in our room and that our room was ready. It may seem a minor thing but it is prompt service like that that makes a hotel stay so pleasant. They were always very helpful, from telling us how to get to the Computer Mart to explaining the difference between Cantonese (the "official" language of Hong Kong), traditional Mandarin, and Simplified Mandarin, to making certain that the personal preferences of my wife and I were met, the entire staff was always extremely helpful. Moreover, they always addressed me by name; to them I was not simply a guest, but a person. For that, I am extremely grateful. Ask yourselves, at how many hotels does the hotel staff know you and address you by your proper name? At the Courtyard Hong Kong, they do.

All in all, our stay at the Courtyard Hong Kong was a very pleasant stay. We plan to return the next time we are in Hong Kong.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room on an upper floor.

Stayed here on business and it was great! Very friendly staff. If you don't want to walk for 30 minutes into town you can jump on the hotel complimentary bus takes you to into town/IFC every 30 minutes. Also does a return journey back to the hotel from the mail shopping mall/IFC every 30 minutes! Great breakfast!

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a sea view room

Just had 5 days at this Marriott Courtyard hotel in Hong Kong and although it is basically a businessman's hotel, we found that, although we were travelling with 2 small children, the service was extremely friendly and efficient. We had the feeling that they went out of their way to make us welcome. We would definitely recommend it, bravo to everyone.
The location was also good with the free hotel shuttle bus to Central and the tram too, just round the corner. All round a great experience.

While the hotel is away from the City Center, the free shuttle that run to the IFC every hour, and subsequent pick up shuttle every half hour, make up for the distance from public transportation. The rooms are small by American standards, but spacious by Hong Kong or Japanese standards. All the usual amenities are available, except for a pool. The views of the harbor are nice, but one has to also overlook some of the older and weather worn buildings in the area. Good for a weekend stop.

Stayed 5nights in Courtyard Marriot end May early June, a good hotel with extremely helpful and cheerful staff. The only issues are;-
It's too far from Central or any MTR station you either have to wait for hospitality bus or get taxi.
No dedicated bar, if you want a drink you have to have it in restaurant area.
Chairs in restaurant are too low for western style eating.

The room rate is very good by HK standards.
