Owner description: Lovely little fishing village with many shops and seafood. Take a boat ride for lovely scenery or take a walk up the mountain to see the White Chinese Dolhins swim.

“Not the kind of fishing village you expect”
Reviewed May 15, 2013

Tai O is pretty touristy theses days. It's not the place where you could see fisherman and village lives. On a sunny day, it is good to take a walk along the villages. The old police station was remodeled as a boutique hotel. I personally find that it is too pricy for a small room with simply design. If you are a cat lover, you will see a lot of stray cats. You could even bring some cat foods for them. They are very friendly.

“Average - can give this a miss”
Reviewed May 6, 2013

I didnt particularly enjoy Tai O fishing village. The only two things i liked visiting this place was the boat ride for HK20 (cheap) and the fish balls i ate in the village (4 for HK8). The boat ride was exciting simply because the guy took us for a really fast ride in the middle of the sea without life jackets!! So the fishing village by itself was nothing great but yes go for the boat ride and the fish balls.

“A leisure day chilling in Tai O ...”
Reviewed April 28, 2013

As for me… Tai O is much more interesting than all the lights & sounds of the Hong Kong Island or Kowloon…

Perfect for a lazy day ..chilling out at the dessert stores.. lunching at the many restaurants ..and the many street food (delicacies)..

And oh yes.. try your luck in meeting pink dolphins.. i seen it only once..and its WORTH it! Amazing PINK dolphins!

“Do not miss the tour boat along the river, it's awesome.”
Reviewed April 27, 2013 via mobile

Located in the western side of Lantau Island, this beautiful and typical fishing village for many years one of the most popular destinations for tourists, a few kilometres away from Ngong Ping and the giant Buddha statue.
I personally have purchased the full package of Cable Car ticket which led me to visit this fishing village in a hike of about 1 hour.
The place is very nice, walk on the main street called the fish Street where several stalls sell local products.
This is a very small village bisected by a river and connected by a small bridge.
A short boat ride of about 20 minutes along the river that leads to the open sea, from here you can admire along the watercourse the numerous stilt houses where most of the residents live.
These all are wooden stilts emblem of poverty and slightly disadvantaged condition in which these people live.
All in all it was a pleasant experience.

“A great trip away from the city”
Reviewed April 26, 2013

We had a guided tour around the whole village from land and from the water. It was great to see how the locals lived and went about their business. I'm sure it's changed over the years and as the visitors have grown but it still comes across as very authentic. - It's as much fun getting there too - MTR to Tung Chung, Bus no.11 - takes about 2 hours from central in total.
