Owner description: Lovely little fishing village with many shops and seafood. Take a boat ride for lovely scenery or take a walk up the mountain to see the White Chinese Dolhins swim.

“Good if you haven't seen it before.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2012

I've taken multiple trips to my parents' hometown in china over the years. This wasn't much different. It was interesting seeing the area, but I wouldn't plan on eating there. They have Asian restaurants, but they are the typical grungy places. If you want something nice, eat at the big buddha first, then come and visit the town for an hour. Afterwards, we took a boat to the new territories.

“Must not be missed when visiting Giant Buddha!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2012

I find Giant Buddha sight very artificial however still worth to visit because that is the part of Chinese culture, they have historical and old mixed with artificial and fake! Go and explore both sides of it! However when you explore Giant Buddha area take a bus from there to Tai O village which is absolutely stunning, fisherman's houses and the market where you can enjoy grilled scallops and all other type of seafood and fish. I am vegetarian myself but I believe that my meat eater friends would enjoy that place (also my colleagues here in Hong Kong gave great feedback on a food there). When you arrive there will be locals offering you to take a short boat trip for as little as HKD 20 to see pink dolphins. Go for it! It is nice ride through the river streets of the fisherman houses, still bear in mind that seeing dolphins is the matter of luck.

I was lucky! And I wish you to be! :)

“Live on water”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 20, 2012

Glad to see fishermen village who live in houses built on water. They used to see at Aberdeen. They maintain in good traditional live even now. One thing is special, West side of the coast line belongs to PR China territory.

“Tai O fishing village”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 18, 2012

What a refreshing difference from the normal city life Tai O has to offer. Simple and yet something for the kids to experience. House on stilts, dried seafood products and a boat ride around the village to spend a short afternoon there. Good place to stop by if time permits for a change of environment. Order some fresh seafood and the kitchen will cook for you fresh. Why not?

“Another paradise, peaceful..”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 31, 2012

Took a cable car to visit giant Buddha and bus tour included to Tai O. A village where their main produce was seafood and dried shrimp or the best one was shrimp paste.
A very good place to visit, small but something different from city.
