Rambler Oasis Hotel

Reviewed January 3, 2013 via mobile

We stayed there for 3 days and 2 nights during the last week of November 2012. It was clean and just the right size for two. A good and comfortable bed plus a clean bathroom is actually enough. The staff were helpful. Even though only the front desk people can speak in English, the housekeeping staff assisted us with some matters in our hotel room. It is within the same crest (walking distance) as Rambler Garden Hotel, thus the name Rambler Crest. In Rambler Garden, there are shops in the first level like Watsons, 7 Eleven, Cafe de Coral, and others. A big plus! There are also ATM machines there. The only downside are the other hotel guests from mainland China who are very noisy. They crowd public areas like the lobby and the lifts and are really rude (no offense). A point for improvement I can suggest for the hotel is to at least offer free wi-fi in public areas (e.g. lobby) instead of including it on top of the bill. They only have LAN access by the way. Prepare a 1,000 HKD deposit (but you can get it when you check out). :)

Stayed at the Rambler Oasis first week of December 2012. My family and I occupied 2 rooms at the 25th floor and the views were stunning. Up front you can see the mountain ridge and the different high rise condos set in a rural environment. At the back is a port terminal where all sorts of container vans/trucks converge to move merchandise. It was actually fun observing how the different machineries moved the containers and this goes on 24/7.

As for the rooms themselves, the hotel provides basic amenities and more. The rooms are clean and the bathrooms are quite modern. The housekeeping staff here also are eager to please. They made the rooms everyday and replaced the toiletries on a daily basis.

If you will be out most of the day, and just need some place to relax at night, this hotel is more than adequate. There is also a commercial area where you can find a convenience store (Park & shop), shops selling different merchandise from bags to suitcases, and a couple of restaurants located at the hotel basement (shared with the 2 adjacent buildings). This area can be accessed thru the Rambler Oasis basement but is kind of tricky. best way to get here is via the basement of the neighboring Rambler Crest building. It is about a 5 minute walk from the Oasis.

As for public transportation, you can catch a cab right at the hotel lobby and it will cost you around HKD25 to 27 to get to the nearest MTR station (Tsing Yi). You may also take the 88F minibus which stops right around the hotel corner.

The hotel is in Tsing Yi island and far from the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong and Kowloon islands. This has its own ups and downs. Far from the city may mean far from tourist and entertainment spots but this also means far from all the noise and smog when its time to hit the sack.

Overall, this hotel serves its purpose and if you are not too picky and on a budget, I highly suggest this hotel.

To get to this hotel, either use the hotel’s shuttle service from the airport or take a taxi. Make the short trip with the frequent mini-bus service to get to Tsuen Wan for the MTR service for daily excursions. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to a new-comer to HK, you would be wise to choose a more central location in Kowloon or HK Island close to the MTR service.

Prices were fair and room was large, modern and clean. We stayed on the 33rd floor and there’s a open balcony opposite the room so keep to the wall if you hate heights. Twice we had the hassle of our room electronic key not giving access to the room. The first time the reception didn’t care/notice that we were staying a few more nights and just enabled it for that day. Next day, key didn’t work again and this time another receptionist queried why system wasn’t updated to our check-out date.

You will encounter mostly ill-mannered mainland Chinese people using this hotel. They will not queue at the reception and lifts. The hotel had to man the lifts as it was frustrating getting to our floor with the amount of misuse.

There is free WiFi only at reception area and there’s small shopping mall on-site.

I am only staying at this hotel because my sister-in-law lives close by.

Considering this hotel is a member of Harbor Plaza group, I expected a good experience as I had when I stayed at Harbor Grand Kowloon before. This time, it was a disappointment.

It took me half an hour to check-in, though, I booked through their website. The staff are not so service-oriented.

When we were trying to rest in the afternoon, there was a noise from construction outside, I complained to the hotel duty manager. All she can say was, "be patient". They can't seem to find a way to satisfy their clients.

The shuttle is supposed to be free once you have checked-in, but the driver told us to pay first or leave the bus if we can't pay even if I kept on telling him we are checked-in guests. That was so rude! He didn't even verify from the front desk to avoid humiliating us.

Staff needs more training to improve their communication skills, grooming, and service.
Two good things-room is clean and near tsing yi station.

We didn't have high expectations, so were not disappointed. In HKG more than most places you get what you pay for and budget in HKG equates to TINY rooms. We wanted cheap and airport convenience and that is what we got. Stayed less than 12 hours and found the view of the container port fascinating and the staff friendly & helpful, especially when we were looking for the A31 bus to the airport. A little bit hard to find even after using the convenient shuttle bus from Tsing Yi Station.

The hotel is full of guest (tour bus) all the time. In the morning, we had to wait for so long to get down to the lobby.

The room is tidy but clean. The shower is clotted.

However, the rate is vey reasonable compare to other hotels. Transportation is convenience. There is mini bus to MTR station.

Really good hotel close to the airport (Thing Yi), good transfers, easy to reach. A good choice if your plane sets off early, but could be cheaper for a transit hotel.
The taxi to the airport is not expensive.
The room is pleasant, nicely furnished, with a beautiful view of the port, but not the biggest one. The bathroom have everything you need, including a hairdrier, and is very clean.
The breakfast is not included in the price, can be ordered extra ( room service.) .
Water boiler, coffee, tea, sugar etc. is available in the room, Wonderful pool for an extra fee.
