Owner description: The Hong Kong Maritime Museum (HKMM), opened at Murray House in Stanley in 2005, is a vibrant, cultural institution dedicated to preserving, collecting and displaying objects that tell the story about trade and maritime in Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta. Since 2013, the Museum has been relocated to the picturesque Victoria Harbour at Central Pier No. 8. An independent, non-profit registered charity, HKMM is supported by the shipping industry, the business community, private individuals and the Hong Kong SAR Government. HKMM houses 15 galleries including a venue space for special exhibitions and events, a resource centre, a roof-top social enterprise café, and a gift shop. HKMM promotes Hong Kong, China and Asia's maritime history and heritage as well as the vital role that ships and the sea play in our past, present and future. It also offers visitors a variety of public programmes including guided tours, workshops, public talks, and school, community and family activities.

“Newly relocated museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2013

Millions spent on a fabulous new Martime museum previously in Stanley. Next to HK Island Star Ferry terminal and so interesting. Children loved the interactive exhibits and we were impressed by the historical treasures beautifully displayed. Worth worth a visit and a hard day exploring HK maritime history.

“Very well laid out, new museum - but you do need subject matter interest”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2013

This new museum is very well laid out and I spent a couple of hours here - though I think you do have to have some interest in the subject to spend as much time here. The entry fee is very reasonable though - and there are plenty of interactive displays and exhibits to have fun with. Also good views of the harbor.

“Worth a visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

The newly opened Maritime Museum at Central Pier 8 is well worth a visit. Spacious surroundings with huge windows overlooking the Harbour ; ideal location! From fisherfolk to pirates with everything in between, including interesting facts about the industrial work of the port, a great way to pass an afternoon if the weather turns rainy

“Good interesting museum right by the water”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 26, 2013

This museum is right on Hong Kong harbour and allows you to make sense of Hong Kong (primarily a trading port) in a way nothing else would. I found it to be both enjoyable and well-made. That having been said, my companion judged it boring and, if you are used to free museums, the HK$30 cash-only entrance ticket comes as a shock.

“all at Shea”

I understand that this museum has just relocated to central pier 8.that probably explains why there are very few directional signs and the entrance is hard to find.inside you will find a state of the art museum on 3 floors.the bottom floor deals with the development of shipping.it is probably the best gallery.the middle floor deals with charting the depths and diving.the top floor highlights navigational aids.I found it very engrossing and stayed over two hours.lots of hands on screens and not just for the kids either.maybe not enough people know of its new location.I was one of only a handful of people visiting.
