Oh the sweet smell of urine and patches of missing carpet

1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Oct 21, 2012
There is nothing like traveling 20-hours in a gas-filled tube 7-miles above the earth and checking into a hotel that smells like urine. I sit on my bed on a towel because the surrounding is a perfect bed bug habitat. Patches of carpet are missing from a floor that I will only wear shoes on. Note to self: if your hotel is in a huge metropolitan city and it is half the cost of the least expensive hotel, don't do it. This is akin to a garbage European hostel in the farming throws of Slovakia. Pack your Hepatitis vaccine and Cipro for this beauty.

We stayed there for 10 nights recently because of the price and the location. After reading other reviews - we can only confirm them. The rooms are clean, wireless is good and the location excellent. The breakfast is kind of strange - it is the first time that it is not a buffet express. You are seated and served according to a short menu (A,B,C,D,E). Two options western food, two options Chinese and one vegetarian. The orange juice is watery and the coffee bad but this was not the reason we chose this hotel. It is a good value for money if location and cleanliness are important. The free Internet was important for us too. The service was not bad either. The only thing that was a little disturbing- they had about three times fire alarms in the middle of the night - some kind of drill. It was scary.

Room tip: Take an upper floor

Location:
Great location, right behind Times Square (where the Ferragamo store is). About 10 mins walk underground from the Causeway Bay MTR station (select the exit for Lane Crawford).

Location is only problematic if
- you wish to take a cab to the hotel since the hotel's address is that of a small lane. (if unsure, just tell the cab driver to drop you at Times Sq.)
- you take the airport express as there is no free shuttle bus to this hotel.

3 of us took a cab from the airport, which cost about HKD300 (inclusive of luggage & tunnel toll fee).

I arrived during China's Golden Week. To my horror, at 4.00 pm, they had no rooms for us. We had to wait till about 6.00 pm before a room was allocated. There is construction right next to the building, therefore, you have to ask for a room away from the construction.

Room:
We were given high floor & right in front of the elevators. But the room was considered well insulated. We had no problems with noise.
We had the twin bedroom with a sofabed. The sofabed was already prepped with linen & pillows. Alas, it was too hard & thin to sleep on for an adult. I believed it is not a problem for toddlers. The "wardrobe" was hardly enough for 3 females !

Amenities & housekeeping :
The room came with basic amenities such as toothbrush, hairdryer, bedroom slippers & refrigerator. Housekeeping was very prompt whenever we requested for extra blankets/pillows.

Breakfast :
Food & service at the breakfast place was simply unmentionable - below average! Go out & grab your breakfast at the nearby eateries !!

Overall, a basic room at a great location. For its pricing during the golden week, it was a value stay.

The hotel is located across Time Square mall, with many shops and restaurants around it.
The Underground station is in the mall basement (although you need to walk for about almost 10 minutes to reach the train itself under the streets).
The rooms are basics and clean, contain whatever you need for a nice stay.
IF you are looking for a good location, clean hotel with decent price (comparing to Hong Kong) it is a good value.
Breakfast is very limited but you have a refrigerator at the room (real one not minibar) and you can buy fresh food at the Time Square basement supermarket for your stay.

This hotel is the tiniest thing, I myself (6'3" and 300 lbs) have experienced but this is Hong Kong where every square centimeter and every cubic centimeter counts. This is an efficiency hotel and for the amount of money and the location, I seriously feel it's a great bang for your buck as it will be primarily be used for sleeping. The restaurants are a fair mix (though I didn't take advantage of the breakfast coupons) and the HiTop was a serious treat for myself during lunch. In any case, in so far as staff are concerned, the check-in was highly efficient and seriously professional (especially Chris) and checkout was a breeze and even the luggage storage was secure and free. If you want the chi chi end of Hong Kong at a great price where you have enough money to experience the shopping, entertainment in a clean living space - this is the place for me!

Room tip: Choose a high floor room away from the elevator

Reception was very accommodating to our requests. Flight came early and luckily they were able to check us in before 2pm. Rooms are very clean and well maintained. Set breakfast is ok. Best part here is the location and its proximity to MTR, Times Square, and shops.

Overall, had a grand experience here and will definitely come back on my next visit in Causeway Bay. :)

Tip to other travelers, cheaper if you'll take the bus from the airport to causeway bay and alight at bus #13 wan chai fire station. It's just a 5-10 min walk from there. You can always ask for Times Square as your landmark.
