Take your time to climb up the many many stairs, guided by the live size statues of hundreds of Budha's. At the top enjoy the view and stroll around the different complexes displaying thousands of Budha statue, in every size. Descend the other way and pass through the old village and some more shrines that the monks visit on their way up or down. These are still very much in use, so be respectful. Better not do this on a very hot day, when you are not in great shape, it's a serious climb.

The climb upto the monastery is lined up by lovely statues ten thousands of them. Usually very few tourists go to this place. The Monastery at the top is a serene place and the carvings and paintings are beautiful.

Especially now that the weather is cooler. It is a few hundred steps up a small hill with gold coloured statues along the path. There is a monastry on top and a small vegetarian restaurant. The path might be a bit tricky to find, it is located behind the government building (Post Office etc.) as you come out of Shatin Station.

I absolutely loved this place. It is a good day to spend but can be a very tiring one. I would watch out for the monkey's.. one of the mothers got annoyed with us and started chasing us hehe. Great time.

It's a bit off the beaten track but easy and cheap to get to this attraction on the MTR. After reading other reviews I printed off directions on how to find the place. Actually, it's fairly easy - exit the station near the buses and village then left at the shopping mall and first right past the multi storey car park.
Walk up is lots of steps but they are not particularly steep and there's loads of Buddha's to look at. The effort is well worthwhile with plenty to see at the top including the ten thousand Buddha's temple and numerous other striking buildings. We stopped for a drink in the cafe which was nice.
Overall, never really been anywhere like this before and genuinely glad we made the effort.
