Owner description: Known for its busy streets and shopping
Reviewed May 5, 2014

The Mongkok area contains a whole collection of different markets- Ladies market, Fish market Bird Market to name a few. These spring to life at different times in the day. However its the evening time when the whole area explodes into colour and energy. Street musicians entertain crowds, electronic stores with the latest high tech gear vie for your attention and if you look deeper you will find some fascinating small shopping arcades with restaurants that are worth exploring. You really need to have your walking shoes on for this outing.

Pros: Compact look at what HKG has to offer. The 3 floor food market is a museum (especially the seafood) in itself. You'll be able to walk thru huge, blooming orchid plants, observe goldfish of every shape and color & buy unusual apparel and "stuff" all within about 2 square miles.

Cons: No bathrooms, gets super crowded & hard to cross some streets. You'll have to go up stairs to an elevated walkway, walk down a block or so, then down stairs to the other side to access main streets. Very confusing at times.

You will find almost everything here clothes, souvenir, toys, gadgets, perfumes, hats, handbags. You need atleast 2-3 hours to roam around and analyze your decision to buy stuff. A LOT to bargain, for instance I got a handbag for 110 HKD which was tagged at a price of 400 HKD. But I believe you can bargain more if you are good at it. The market is alive till midnight or so and there are lot of food take aways and a long stretch full with shops. A must visit place when you are in HongKong and buy some cheap stuff.

This highly congested area of Hong Kong could be a shopper’s idea of heaven. Everything can be found here from electronic goods stores, to fashion to street markets. A little out the way from the harbour zones, but worth the trip. Many food outlets line the street, could not want for anything else in this area.

Mongkok seems to never sleep, being packed both during the day and night.

I am not sure why this area doesn't get a higher rating on TripAdvisor. It is such a vibrant, crowded and colourful part of Hong Kong. We loved walking through this area which has millions of shops, fast food take-aways, restaurants and the Ladies market which are open and buzzing until the late hours of the night... Don't miss this wonderful neighbourhood.. Take the metro train to Mongkok station!
