I have not see a better night harbor view than this one. You must go at night. Their is a light show every night at 8 Pm. The best spot to watch is near the ocean terminal

In my opinion, the best aspects were the skyline and Symphony of lights show. Otherwise, the avenue of stars isn't that memorable and the Star ferry ride was a bit of a letdown. I was expecting something more inspiring on the Star ferry but since its not an open vessel, you cannot really enjoy the approach to Hong Kong skyline. Even though I was sitting right in the front, I couldn't catch a good view as a poster was stuck right in front.

On the TST side, lots of undesirable touts wanting to sell you suits or watches. Avoid the visitors from mainland (all they do is push, shove, act rudely and spit everywhere).

Take the ferry across (and back again, if desired).
I prefer the Central side myself.
There are restaurants in the IFC mall (old one, and new one) that have lovely views of the harbour.
The expectation of something to do is misguided; go for the ambiance and to soak up the experience of all the activity and what can be observed around you.
Best time to visit HK is spring months or autumn months.

Wether you go on the ferry or stand and view from hong kong island or view from Kowloon, the harbour is spectacular.
Night time is like a Christmas tree lit up every night.
I was gobsmacked to even see a tall building with the word Facebook down the side in lights lol.
Day time is picture postcard.
Raining, blue sky, it's lovely.
The promenade gets too crowded for the night show, I would suggest a ferry ride day and night the loveliest ,most easiest way of viewing this beautiful harbour.

Preferably go in the night to see the electric skyline of the City. Take a Ferry ride or just sit and relax in one of the Cafe. You can visit Intercontinental where you can get a great view of the Symphony of light as well.,
