I stayed here for a week with my son who is 23. I am a member of Disney vacation club and we wanted to explore Hong Kong rather than spend a lot of time in Disneyland Hong Kong.
The hotel is on Lantau Island and there are no bars/shops/restaurants in the immediate vicinity. This does not matter as it is so quick to get into Central on Hong Kong Island by MTR. The journey time is approximately 30 minutes from leaving your room.
The hotel staff were extremely attentive and very friendly. The room had a great view of Discovery Bay although we had only booked a Garden View Room. The room was great for us and lots of Mickey touches if that is important to you. Dining choices are limited. There is a fast service cafeteria which we did not use and Chef Mickeys restaurant which served buffets for breakfast lunch and dinner. The buffet was extensive serving both asian and western cuisine. We particularly enjoyed the dim sum selection for breakfast. Although we only ate dinner on one occasion I felt that it was great value for money.
There is no room service which did not matter to us but a fitness centre would have been of value.
The landscaping and grounds were beautiful and very much up to the Disney standards. It was great to get back from the wizz of Hong Kong in the evening and go for a relaxing swim in the pool and a dunk in the hot tub. The pool also has a great wee water slide which is cool for kids...of all age!.
Transportation to the MTR station by Disney Shuttle was extremely efficient and we did not have to wait more than a couple of minutes at the hotel. On arriving back at about 9pm from Hong Kong the wait time was similar although I believe it may be longer later in the night.
All in all a perfect place to stay for exploring Hong Kong.
Unfortunately Disneyland itself is very limited...but that is not why we were here.

We stayed for 1 night at the end of May, taking advantage of an offer where we could visit the park for an extra day free if staying at the hotel. As there is no other reason to stay at the Disney hotels (far from HK centre) except than to visit the park, I suspect most other guests were doing the same.

Although it was low season (midweek in May), the lobby was quite busy when we arrived, however it appeared to run quite efficiently. We had to queue to checkin and checkout but the line moved fast and there were plenty of receptionists.

We planned to arrive mid-morning at the hotel, drop off our luggage, pick up our park passes, go to the park, and then move into our room in the evening. I emailed the hotel beforehand to confirm this plan would work. In fact, they were able to provide a room when we arrived at 10:30am so we used it before heading for the park.

A recent reviewer complained of not being able to check-in until 3pm (in August). While I sympathize with anyone who has kids in such a situation, we also have young kids and anticipated this in advance and would have been happy to just drop off the bags and move into the room in the evening after visiting the park. If the lobby was busy when we were there in May I expect it must be a madhouse during holiday time in August.

As for the hotel itself:

Pros:
+ 2 days park entry for price of one was the main reason to stay here; this made up for the high price of the hotel. (We stayed in central HK to sightsee the city.)
+ free and quick bus transfer to/from the park
+ good pool and waterslide. The kids loved when Goofy made an appearance.
+ Midweek in May (low season, I presume), we were able to check-in at 1030am and got a room upgrade.
+ two beds, each of which was a small double. We had one adult and one child in each bed.
+ big fridge
+ bathrobes and slippers including child-size. There was only one pair of child-size slippers and we got a second on request.
+ sizeable tea-making area in the room
+ efficient check-in and bag delivery to room
+ room clean and modern
+ nice track along the seafront for going walking/running

Neither pro nor con:
= Chef Mickey restaurant HK$198+10% for large dinner buffet (HK$98+10% per child). We ate there twice. While this isn't cheap, and there isn't much alternative (as the other restaurant was closed during our stay), the selection is large and the kids like buffets, so it was acceptable.

Cons:
- it's not cheap, our rate was circa HK$1290/night
- No reason to stay here except to visit the park. It's too far from central HK although MTB metro transport exists.
- paranoid policy at the waterslide. Three lifeguards patrolled it, ensuring that the first kid had moved away from the bottom of the slide before the next one was allowed to come down. This was a bit mad and meant the kids had to queue much longer than really necessary (and denied the pleasure of coming down 6-at-a-time!).
- The Disney complex is in the middle of nowhere, so don't expect to walk out and find a 7/11, or anything else. If you need to economize, buy drinks and snacks before arriving!

Other:
After our 2nd day at the park, we came back to the hotel to pick up our bags and leave for the airport. We managed to have a welcome swim and shower at the pool area without anyone complaining (although I had to fib about still having a room number).

We arrived in HK on a Thursday evening and stayed in Kowloon for one night. We had to check out by noon to make our way to Disneyland where we were booked at the Hollywood Hotel. We got there by 1 pm (Fri) and the lobby was crazy... packed with tons of people! The worst part is that we could only get our room keys (for 2 families with adjoining rooms) at 3 pm. They kept telling us to leave our luggage so we could proceed to the park. We didn't think this was practical to do. We were 4 adults with 2 young toddlers and we wanted to freshen up, secure our passports and cash in the safe, and use the bathroom. So we just killed 2 hours in the restaurant. When we went back to the desk to get our room keys, they upgraded us and gave us more expensive sea view rooms. I don't understand why we had to wait till 3 pm when check-out time is at a very early 11 am?????? Does it take them 4 hours to get the rooms ready for the next guests?? Did they upgrade us because they couldn't give us rooms at 3 pm as promised? If I understood why there was a 4 hour period between check-out and check-in, then I wouldn't be this upset about the whole thing.

Stayed at Disney's Hollywood Hotel for 2 nights in July 2009.

Overall we had a great stay but it lacked that 'magic' we so expected after reading all the reviews on Trip Advisor.

Our first impressions were fabulous. Hollywood Hotel was more of a modern retro type hotel. It was clean and run efficiently. Check-in was quick and hassle-free. For a little extra we were offered a Park View Room which we accepted, but looking back didn't really need as we were at Disneyland Park for most of our stay. The view is mainly of the carpark with lots of trees and in the distance you can just see Disneyland. You can see the fireworks from the room but I recommend you see them at Disneyland itself as they are trully amazing.

The grounds were immaculate. There were people cleaning and pruning virtually all day. The pool area was good. The kids loved the water slide - at times it was virtually impossible to drag them away. There were lifeguards on both the top and bottom of the waterslide ensuring safety at all times. There was also another lifeguard watching the pool area. The water in the pool was nice and warm which my kids loved.

Had breakfast and dinner at Chef Mickey. It was a nice place with lots of food items on offer but was quite expensive. The other restaurant opposite the gift shop was just as expensive, though the food was really nice. There's really not much else open near that area at night so really you have no choice but to eat there.

There is a free shuttle which takes you to Disneyland Park every 5-10 minutes. There was never much of a wait - actually I don't even think we ever waited as there was always a shuttle waiting to transport people across.

Disneyland Park was awesome. Not as big as LA or Paris but still lots of fun for all. Watch out for umbrellas though - it appears everyone has one and it can get quite dangerous especially when watching the parade and everyone is so close together. Had to be careful not to get poked in the eye!

We had a memorable stay at Hollywood Hotel. We can't really fault it other than it was certainly expensive and in our opinion did need a little more 'magic'.

We only booked for a night - since my boyfriend knew I was always a Disney fan, hence gave in to my request - and then proceeded to check-in at Stanford for the next 2 nights of our stay in HK.

I don't have any negative things to say about this hotel - it is just splendid! I felt as if I was transported to a different place in a different time! It's actually a very good for couples - and for those guys who want to propose to their girlfriends. You can wake up early and go strolling in the hotel's huge park. Every small detail was planned out - from the mickey-shaped elevator panel to small kiddie area (the kiddie sala is so adorable!) at the reception. Everything screams mickey and disney! :) You can take hundreds of pictures just in the hotel itself!

I really loved the place! Truly magical experience :)

Cool art deco retro style throughout with plenty of Mickey touches
service excellent;
room rate is steep even with Hong Kong resident discount.
Pool was nice--in shape of piano, but pool bar was very disappointing. Not open until middle-afternoon, tables and chairs dirty with food and vegetation debris. Some poolside loungers ripped and just left for people to use.
Studio lounge was great place to sit, have a drink, read a book, watch a movie, get a simple but tasty meal, chit-chat--probably my favourite space in the hotel.
great place for a non-park adult to chill-out, while teens and kids run around the park.
i enjoyed my quiet, sunny, and pleasant time--except for the Asian guy who went ballistic in the dining room when they closed the breakfast service at 11 am--security was really slow and only showed up after he left the room--not good disney style.

3 days for the kids. Spacious art deco rooms.
Normally wouldn't dream of staying here but family reasons dictated.
Pool appreciated and shuttle to/from Disneyland without complication.
Cameo appearance of Disney characters enthralled the kids.
Food choices a bit pricey and limited.
Ate at HK Disneyland (more variety) and at Tung Chung.
Long queues to check-in and also buy Disneyland passes and change money but very helpful staff.
For the adventurous who can get about a bit take shuttle bus to HK Disneyland, train to Sunny bay then second train to Tung Chung.
Skyrail cablecar to the Po Lin Monastery and Buddha.
Once you have experienced the trains it is easy to get to HK Island or Kowloon. (Kowloon change trains at Lai King)
Trains are fast, safe, cheap and frequent.
Use Octopus card for convenience.
