“Good location with a good price”

Since we were on a budget and planning to stay out most of the time we booked this hostel based on reviews. The rooms are really small as stated before and the bathroom very, very small. It is clean and comfortable though. We actually had a room that could fit 5 people. There were two single beds (narrow but ok), and a bunk bed where the bottom part is a double bed. WE were four, two adults and two children. The beds are high enough to you can keep suitcases out of the way, there was a little desk with a drawer, a TV on the corner ( not many channels in English), our remote control did not work but we could use it manually. The bathroom is small but well built in a way that all the water goes straight to the back , there is a small sink and hand shower. The support was not so nice as the water goes straight to the wall but one can manage it. There is a towel rack and in the room many clothes hangers. The Wi-fi connection in our room was not that great, so we had to use the computer most of the times at the reception. They also have two computers for guests to use. They also provide laundry for 40HK, for about 3kg, washed and dried but not pressed. There is a fridge that guests can use and also hot water and cold ( which was not cold at all) water. We used the fridge a lot as we had our breakfast most of the times in the room. We bought instant coffee, milk, cereal, some bread at a supermarket and would buy few other things at 7eleven and fresh baked bread in nearby bakeries in the morning. The hostel is at Sincere house but both entrances are not exactly at Argyle street, but on both roads on the sides. MTR station is very close. We liked our time there, if we knew we would have spend so much time at the room ( typhoon Vicente) we would have preferred a place with more space, but for people backpacking or as a place to sleep it is nice and convenient.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of units have windows

We stayed here for two nights. we had no reservation but they gave us a room no problem. we got a double room with private ensuite.
The room is very small, two people cannot stand in it without being on bed or in toilet, but this is the norm for this accommodation in HK. We had previously stayed in a hostel on another floor in this building, and the rooms and bathroom here were bigger. Bed is just over 6ft long.
The room was clean and did the job...you don't spend much time in the room anyway.
It has WIFI and two computers at the office which you can use.
Male member of staff checked us in, he was very helpful and nice. Other man on at night was also very nice and helpful. The rest of the staff don't seem to have any English.
The location is great: right beside the ladies market and Nathan Road, also beside Mong Kok station for train.
From airport get bus A21 to Mong Kok and then 3 minute walk.
You can also get discounted tickets for many attractions in HK here...we got our Disneyland tickets here and they have little slips of paper with directions on how to get to each attraction printed out which is a great help.

However, the rooms are very old and not very well kept. The aircon was very old and noisy at times-it had no remote. Mould in bathrooms etc.
But for the price paid, it is a good find...HK is very expensive for accommodation.

Pros:
Our flight was delayed so I emailed Dragon Hostel to keep my room. Steven replied my email so I can keep my room. We arrive in the middle of the night and Steven was friendly & he showed my room.
I think The Sincere House where the hostel is located is quite safe. We didn’t see men loitering in the lobby trying to get you to different hostels.
The location is near MTR Mong Kok station. It is near the Ladies market. Well basically the Sincere House is surrounded by shops, even the first floor is consisted of shops. Seven eleven or local convinient stores are nearby.
The rooms & toilets are small but clean. Well it’s Hongkong, you can’t expect spacious place in cheap price.
There are 2 desktops provided in the office. Hot water is provided in the common room. You can't expect anything fancy here, but every basic thing you need is there.
They sell tickets to Disney, Ngong Ping cable car and some other attraction with discounted price. But, they don’t force you to buy tickets from them. They simply stick an announcement on the wall.

Cons:
Wifi only works well in the office. The connection is bad in the rooms, especially that my room is not at the same floor as the office.
I think only Steven (who takes the night shift) speaks English. Other staffs don’t speak English. But, they have written direction to most tourist attraction on pieces of paper. So you can show them picture or show the location on a map & they will give you a piece of paper that shows the direction to get there.
If your plan is to visit most of the tourist attractions in Tsim Sha Tsui, then Mong Kok (where Dragon Hostel is located) is a bit far from it. By MTR, Mong Kok is 3 stations away from Tsim Sha Tsui.
Halal food for muslims are not easy to find nearby. Someone from the Islamic Center in Wan Chai told me that actually there are some Turkish or Indian food between Mong Kok and Yau Ma Tei, but we didn’t have time to find them as the information came to us on the last day of our stay in Hongkong.

This is my second stay with owner Stanley Fan and the fine folks at Dragon Hostel, and many of the things I've said previously still hold true. I am happy to report that during two separate stays -- one in March and one in April of 2012 -- Dragon Hostel is still going strong. For a comfortable stay on a limited budget, Dragon Hostel is THE place to go. In my opinion, for the money, you absolutely can't find a better place to stay.

Here we go............

Getting there -- Dragon Hostel is located in the pulsing, beating heart of Hong Kong -- Mong Kok. Mong Kok is one of the most densely inhabited places on earth -- so please be aware of that going in. The community, the streets, the building, the hostel will ALL be crowded in a very pleasant, Asian big city way, and to me, that's part of the fun of Mong Kok in particular, and Hong Kong in general.

If arriving by MTR -- get off at the Mong Kok MTR station, and head for exit D2. Up two or three flights of steps, and Exit D2 will dump you out on the wonderfully crowded Argyle Street, and with Nathan Road to your back, walk straight ahead. You will cross Sai Yeung Choi Street, but as of this writing, there is no street sign on the north side of Argyle Street where you will be walking telling you this. Walk along the next block, and you will arrive at Tung Choi Street. Cross that, and you are almost there.

At the corner of Argyle and Tung Choi, you will see the Man Kee Snack shop, selling fresh drinks and fried on the spot snacks. To the left of Man Kee is a currency exchange, and to the left of that is the entrance to Sincere House where Dragon is located. Into the building, up the odd numbered floor lift to floor 7, and follow the signs. Simple.

See the McDonald's while walking on the north side of Argyle Street? You went just a bit too far. You just crossed Fa Yuen Street. Reverse direction, and use the other entrance for Sincere House located maybe 5 meters to your right once you cross back over.

If arriving by Airbus A21 -- hop off at the stop for the Mong Kok MTR Station. You will be on Nathan Road. Walk straight ahead for perhaps 20 meters, and tun left. You will immediately see MTR Exit D1 on your right. Walk straight ahead, and you will see Exit D2 on your right also. Then follow directions above.

Reservations -- Dragon is an INCREDIBLY busy place, and for good reason. MAKE SURE that your reservations are confirmed with Stanley via email at least a day or two ahead of your arrival. If possible, PRINT UP your reservation page and bring it with you. This will help sort things out should there be some slight mix up. PLEASE make sure that when you check in, the person who made the reservation is the one who registers the room. This all helps Dragon's fine staff keep everything straight.

Also with reservations, on at least a half dozen instances during my stay with them, people walked in claiming they had 'reserved' a room. They obviously hadn't, as they had no documentation to support this, and their names were nowhere to be found in Dragon's reservations book. So, be prepared, have the paper ready if at all possible. I liked this aspect of their operation, as it assured me the place is and was incredibly organized.

Checking in -- if arriving during the daytime -- owner Stanley Fan and family will make that a quick and efficient process. Stanley speaks excellent English and Chinese, and will see to all your needs. The same applies for Dragon's superb night time manager, Mr. Steven. Mr. Steven also speaks excellent English along with his native Chinese, and will check you in without delay.

AT TIMES -- Dragon does have some staff that speaks limited English. DO NOT worry. If there is some issue with your reservation, grab one of Dragon's business cards printed in English, point to Stanley's name, and have them call him. All then will be well.

Your room -- there are other reviews indicating that the rooms are small. Folks, they ARE small. And that is exactly what you are paying for. As stated, Mong Kok is absolutely mobbed with humanity. To be able to stay in this neighborhood, with SO many things easily accessible at the price Dragon charges, to me, is absolutely a bargain; and I for one am MORE than happy to be able to stay with Stanley and his family and employees. They have always treated me well.

My room -- very small and compact and wonderfully clean and tidy. Frosty cold air conditioning, small TV, and telephone with free local calls. I chose the shared bathroom option, and virtually never had to wait to use same. And that bathroom also ? SPOTLESS. Beautiful and sparkling clean each and every time I used same. Steamy hot water 24 hours a day.

More room thoughts -- friends, if you want a glorious marble bathroom with included flat panel TV with satellite package, Dragon is not for you. Go rent a room at the Peninsula for ten times what Dragon charges. If you want simple, well run and looked after accommodations on a budget in Mong Kok, choose Dragon Hostel.

Noise -- there are two types. Interior and exterior. If you are coming from a quiet little leafy suburb, or a ranch in the middle of the Australian Outback, Mong Kok's noise CAN be a little overwhelming. There is NOTHING that Dragon's operators can do about the almost steady din of Mong Kok's streets, which are alive 24 hours a day. You'll at least be 7 floors and a few concrete walls away from this, so that helps.

Interior noise at night -- Dragon's excellent night manager Steven is VERY adept at dealing with the occasional noisy guest, and will quickly assist you if needed. RARELY a problem, and it's more a result of the guests simply having a good time than anything else.

Services -- Dragon Hostel's staff can assist you with anything and everything. Discount tickets for the Cable cars to Ngong Ping and Big Buddah? They have them. Need a China visa? Just ask. Need help navigating the MTR anywhere in Hong Kong? They'll be happy to assist. How about a minivan for 12 to HKIA in the middle of the night? Problem solved. All you have to do is ask.

Finally -- if you've read this far, THANKS!

Dragon Hostel to me IS an Oasis, and each and every time I arrived late at night it was there to offer a clean room, a spotless bathroom, friendship, and the staff that is willing and able to assist you in any way possible.

Choose Dragon Hostel.

I'm glad I did, and I simply cannot wait to get back to Hong Kong and stay with them again.

I wasn't really expecting much knowing that I had only paid 300hkd a night. So when I got to my room I wasn't surprised that the room was tiny and the bathroom was the size of a closet. What's important was the bathroom didn't have those gross molds around the tiles. The room showed obvious wear and tear and the television could use some dusting. But the room was cozy enough to get a good night's sleep despite the fact that the walls were thin you could hear other people's conversations. I must have been lucky because by the time I went to sleep, which usually was around 12mn, it was already quiet enough to get some shut eye. I was given room number 6 which was the first room other guests would pass first to get to their own rooms. Or maybe I was just really tired everyday that it was easy to go to sleep. To cut it short, yes, the walls are thin. Location was excellent, lots of cheap and clean food surrounding the area. Malls and small shops are abundant, since its in Mongkok. Didn't hear noise from the outside since my room didn't have windows. Perfect for shopaholics who like myself who just really need a place to sleep. Service was also great. I didn't have a hard time checking-in because the lady who checked me in couldn't speak English so she called up Stanley to speak to me. The staff who could speak English were polite and could actually speak English well. I think it was Stanley who was manning the front desk when I left and he was always smiling and helpful. If you're not claustrophobic and just looking for a cheap and clean place to sleep, then I'd recommend Dragon Hostel. I forgot to mention that the wifi signal was great in my room.

Room Tip: I really liked room 6 which was not in the same area as the front desk. Wifi signal was great. But i...

After reading the reviews, I felt like this hostel would be our best place to stay. We booked two private rooms here. Hong Kong was a bit intimidating considering I'd never been here before. However the hostels website gave very clear instructions on how to find them, and it worked out well.
The building is not attractive, and the accomodations are basic and small. However it had everything we needed. There was even a fridge outside the room we could use.
The location is great. This area is wonderful. The market is very cool to walk through, and theres lots of shopping here. Also, there is a McDonalds across the street, lots of local food, and two 7-11s. The subway is also just about a block away.
The staff was nice although their english is limited. We got discounted tickets to Disneyland and the discount was substantial.
The only major negative here was that I found the mattress to be very hard, to the point where it was hard to sleep. Maybe this is standard in Hong Kong, but it was very uncomfortable.
Another thing to note is, the shower is a showerhead located above the toilet. This wasn't an issue to me, but some people may not like it.
Overall we enjoyed our stay here because of the location and the very reasonable price. I would definately stay here again, but perhaps bring an air mattress to add to the bed.

I was kinda surprised with how old the building could be but everything they offered is worth every single penny you paid. The location is great, it's walking distance to all the shopping centres, ladies street etc. When you gets hungry at midnight, there's a 24 hours congee shop, mcdonalds and snacks stalls and also convenience store.
