“Making HK affordable.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2012

We stayed at Ah Shan Hostel for a week over the Christmas period and found it a great way to make Hong Kong affordable.
Rooms are small and basic, but clean. Towels are provided and the bed-linen looks clean too. The shower had hot water and the pressure was good. One of our rooms had a window, the other did not - but both were perfectly adequate for our needs; leaving every morning around 9am, not to return until 9pm or later in the evenings.
The hostel is located in an ideal place for shopping in Mongkok, whether looking for stores in Langham Place (H&M); located just a block away; trainers/sports shoes in Fa Yuen Street; located in the next street; or browsing Ladies Market, which is conveniently located directly opposite.
Mongkok MTR is also just on the doorstep, making it very easy and quick to get across to HK island, in fact, to get to anywhere in Hong Kong at all.
I highly recommend this hostel if you are looking for somewhere to sleep, shower, and store all those purchases!! What more do you need!

Room Tip: Consider whether you require a window in your room.

1) Thumbs up for the airport bus service that brings you directly to the hostel. Not at the door step but just less than 5 mins walk to the hostel.
2) Floors were at level 14, imagine if lift broke down. You know what I mean...
3) Location VERY STRATEGIC. Very near MTR (subway)
4) Rooms very small but clean though. Cleaniness wise well maintained.
5) Free drinking water. Hot or cold.
6) Rooms pricing value for money.
7) If you want just a place to stay for the night, then this hostel is for you.

Ive stayed in the double as well as the dorm room. The Double room was basic but has all you need, like all Hong Kong places its very small. But the bathroom section looked newly tiled, and the room was proper and clean. They provide fresh water and hot water, so make sure to bring some tea if you travel in winter. The place didnt smell like tabacco! I would recommand the double, probably also single rooms, as they where in the same section, so I asume the single rooms will also be fine. For Hong Kong this is a safe option, just dont expect hotel standards.

The dorms where not that great, there on a different floor. The matrass of one of the beds in my room was really hard, like a rock. So I choose a good bed, but I felt bad for the guy who slept on the hard matress. Also there is only 1 bathroom with shower that you share with many people, and it doesnt lock well. Unlike the single and double rooms sections this place did smell like tabacco, which smells horrible. Would I sleep here again? Maybe, but next time I rather take a change on another hostel with dorms.

So Double/Singles, your safe. Dorms, maybe consider another place! You defenitly survive a night in the dorm, but I think there will be places which are a little bit better.

My wife and I just stayed at Ah Shan Hostel for 5 days during our trip to Hong Kong from (7-12)-Jan-12. Walking to MongKok MTR and Ladies Market take less than 5 minutes!
Free Internet service. Free hot & cold water supply. And also provide Fridge for you to store your foods or drinks too!
Room is clean and the mattress is soft to sleep.( Room size is small but OK to us). Security is good here so no need worry about it. Another plus points is they offer discounted ticket for Disneyland/Ocean Park/Ngong Ping Cables Car/Peak Tram+Sky Terrace + Madame Tussauds. Although not much but when you buy all, it will save you some money.
A lot of nice foods just surround it but you need to walk a lot too! Recommend below restaurants: 金华冰厅, 海景粥店, 深井陈记烧鹅 & 添好运点心店.
Overall, it's really a Value-For-Money hostel! you won't go wrong to stay in Ah Shan Hostel. I will come back to stay here again if go visit Hong Kong next time. Definitely! ;-)

Just stayed for 5 nights and found this hotel absolutely located at nice location (3 min walk to Mong Kok MTR and 女人街), reasonably small, clean, also friendly staff who gave us discount on Disney Land/ Ocean Park/ Ngong Ping cable car tickets (they do normally).

I travelled on 30 Dec 2011 as my friends and I planned to go countdown at Lan Kwai Fong. However, the crowds delays our moment to watch the fireworks!! It is our big regret at Hong Kong :( So, here's the advice for people who like to go Hong Kong countdown must go one hour before as the crowds are unimaginable! After countdown, there are certain people who will hand you paper made hat and condom (s) over, then you can straight ahead go to Lan Kwai Fong pub to drunk.

The traffic a bit noisy when we sleep, even during midnight 2 or 3pm..

Overall, we had a pleasant stay at AhShan hostel, would like to recommend my family and other friends to stay at there..

Room Tip: Limited number of room, so you must make an advance booking, like half a year ago before you travel...

I had been staying in Ah Shan Hostel during my visit to HK during November. The location of the hostel is nice where it is very near to the MTR, a lot of food selling nearby, 7 eleven and ladies market just opposite the road.
The hotel is clean and the staff is nice. Rooms are small but i guess most of the hotel/hostel in Hong Kong are small..

it is a terrible hostel, i book the hostel online through it website, i chose the twin room had private facilities or private ensuite. They gave me the room that is share bathroom. I showed my voucher to them, they said they don't know how to read English. It is stil ok. I had paid the 10% for the deposit for the room , i check in quite late, but they cancelled my room without my information. They said they had tried to contact me, but i doubt.
