“Great hidden market”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 1, 2012

My family and I went to the Jade Market afetr been recommended.
It has a wide varierty of stalls selling everything jade and also some stalls have other odds and ends. My wife was able to buy some nice pearl earrings at a great price as well.

Its a good set of markets to got to if you want something that seems traditional and again has a very wide variety.

Some of the stall owners become somewhat pushy but just keep walking on. They are open to barter for a deal and usually its pretty easy to get to a reasonable price.

Whilst there is no food water etc available in the markets there is a 7 eleven close by.

“No do not go”

unless you know what to look for and what to pay. I bought some nice ceramic brushes for calligraphy, a nice bracelet, but it is hard to find anything worth the trip and it is dated and little to enjoy.

“So much to choose from!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2012

Been to Hong Kong many times but this was the first time visiting the Jade Market. There was so much to see and choose from. Remember you can haggle and you can get yourself some real bargains. The only downside was the extreme heat and humidity but apart from that was a great experience.

“One of many interesting street and covered markets in this area of Kowloon”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2012

When visiting Ya Ma Tei/Jorden districts which are situated between TST and Mongkok on the Kowloon Peninsula, a fun activity to consider is a visit to the Jade Market, which is located nearest to Yau Ma Tei MTR exit C, follow the signs and you'll find it a couple blocks away.

Here you will find two covered halls, Zone A (300+ stalls) and Zone B (100+ stalls) selling jade, beads, jewelry and other souvenir items. You can spend as little as HK10 on a trinket to much, much more on more precise jade stones. The quality of jade found in this market has been subject to question for years and unless you are an expert, it might be advisable to stick to the licensed high street shops for more expensive jade purchases. Not that authentic jade can't be found in the market, but unless you're an expert, and can judge for yourself, it might not be worth the risk.

Besides shopping for a decent jade souvenir, the jade market is a fun place to browse for a while. The market begins to close down and is finished by 5-6pm so its best to do this a bit earlier in the afternoon, have a dinner somewhere in the area before visiting the nearby Temple Street night markets. Combined this can be a fun way to spend a mid-afternoon and evening in Kowloon.
