A great place to get away from the buzz of Hong Kong. Take the walk across from one side of the island to the next for peace and tranquility.

My partner and I decided on a day out from HK so headed over on the Ferry ($19HKD) to Lamma Island for the walk between the two towns.

In reality it does not really matter which town you go to first and which one you end up as they both have quite a few restaurant options to fill in the time to the next Ferry.

The walk between the two towns is really quite nice. Talks about 1-1.5 hours and does have some steep parts at times but as its all paved (concrete) its really quite simple and suitable to almost every level of fitness. Just bring some water with you as there is no where on the way to buy....

All in all the day out on Lamma is well worth the trip.

The peace and quiet, the good walking trails and the magnificent food offerings at the end make it all a very worthwhile afternoon activity.

We stayed in Hong Kong for 3 nights, by the 3rd day we had seen all to see in the city and were getting quite annoyed with the over population and in need of some physical activity.
We found out of Lamma Island through google and decided to follow the instructions to go to the pier and take the water taxi. Lama island is full of wide paved hiking trails in and down the hills which provided some nice cardio.
Tip: don't go on weekends. Many bring Yonge children, walking around them proves to be difficult.

A really great place for photography and hiking. Went with a hongkong family and they told us that Chow Yun-Fat used to live on the island. (Not sure whether it's true?!)

Walked for around 2-3 hours, and certain portions were a little steep. Most parts during the hike didn't have toilets and at a 'To Fu Hua' (beancurd dessert) place they told us that the 'toilet' was behind the bushes! Make full use of the cool weather now for the hike because even in January, it was a little warm with the sun. After the hike, we had seafood and decided to go for one without the set menu so that we could customize what we wanted.Stay till the evening to enjoy the sunset!

What was surprising for me was the 'Best Kebab & Pizza' place that is owned by an Indian family who moved to HK in 1994. Best Mutton Pizza Ever! The burgers were good too. A twist to the rustic island famous for seafood.
