“Best spot to watch sunrise”
Reviewed January 9, 2014 via mobile

The phoenix trail is one of the best and famous place to watch sunrise in Hong Kong.
Normally you will start at 0:00 mid-night at Tung Chung MTR station. Get prepared at the 7-11 there then take a taxi to the starting point. You will have to walk in darkness with torch for 3 hours and get to the top of the Phoenix mountain at around 4am. Then you can take some snacks or even bring hot water up there to make some cup noodles.
After watching the sunrise, you can take either the hard but short way down, or the long but easier way. If you still have the stamina, you can take the hard way and walk for 4-5 hours back to Tung Chung City.
If you are not experienced in hiking at night, you can go on the days which are public holidays in Hong Kong like 1st October. There will be many visitors going together along the way and will take care each other.

“Brilliant Walk!”
Reviewed December 12, 2013

I walked the Lantau trail from Discovery Bay to Mui Wo pier via the Trappist Monastery.

The walk is not for the unfit. There are many many sets of stairs, however it is quite rewarding, especially when one reaches the top of an unnamed peak halfway from the monastery to Mui Wo.

“Excellent trekking opportunities”
Reviewed March 28, 2013

Took ferry from Central pier and then bus from Mui Wo to start point. Did section 2 of the Lantau Trail from Mui Wo to Tung Chung. I must say one has to be relatively fit to do this 6km trek as it is not flat at all! The going down part really killed both my knees as it was an hour of non stop steps descent to the base. At least I got to see villagers enjoying themselves in a pond & people collecting "spring" water which is something quite different from city life. Although a relatively tough trail, it was quite scenic and one just has to be better prepared and pack along some water & snacks to sustain the 3-3.5 hour long trek. U can get them from the 7-Eleven before u take the bus. Oh, don't start the trek too late or you might get stuck in the dark :p
