Took the metro out to Tung Chung and the cable car up to Ngong Ping. The Buddha statue was very impressive, but not too much else here.

This attraction mixes tourism and religious pilgrimage. Some ones came for the first reason, other ones came for the second but it’s impossible don’t do both. Because there are the temple and around it it’s a Vintage Village that offers shopping, atractions, services and so on. Teke few hours to enjoy everything here.

We took the bus from Tung Chung Station, The ride was not as long as we expected, plus the cost was just right for us as we were on shoestring budget.

Big Buddha is a half day trip from Hong Kong but definitely worth doing. You get the MTR from Hong Kong Central to the MTR Tung Chung Station Exit B, then take the Ngong Ping Cable Car. The cable car is an experience in itself – some have glass bottomed floors so you can see below you! If you get a nice day, it’s stunning!
A round trip in the Crystal Cabin is HKD 315 (£31), or in the standard cabin (opaque floor) is HKD 235 (£23)! If you go really early in the morning, you might get lucky like I did and have a Crystal Cabin to yourself!! (loner)!!

We visited the big Budda on Lantau Island and was well worth a visit. The area like all of Hong Kong was a bit commercialized so this devalued the experience somewhat but it was worth a visit.

We took the Ngong Ping 360 cable ride. The crystal cabin is worth it for us. The climb up the buddha was worth it. Go when it is not too hot. The restaurants in the village were decent. A short bus ride to Tai O fishing village is worth the visit. We went to buy dried seafood.

We visited the Tian Tan Buddha as part of our guided tour of Lantau Island.. It was a great way to hear about the local sites from an actual local! We experienced a guided tour inside the Buddha, along with learning the history of the nearby Po Lin Monastery, before enjoying a very delicious vegetarian lunch.
Our tour included a bus trip to the fishing village of Tai O, where our guide was from, before our visit to the Buddha - we then returned to Chung Tung via the Cable Car.. We didn't experience any wait lines and had a really great time here - it is definitely a must see if visiting Lantau & Hong Kong, and I would highly recommend doing this as part of a tour as we learnt things that you just wouldn't here about otherwise.

We took the ferry and bus going to the Big Buddha, and the cable car back to the Citigate MTR stop. The ferry and bus were relaxing and peaceful rides; nice and less tourists. For the cable car back to the MTR station, quite fun, BUT be ready to wait in a long snaking queue for at least 30 minutes (it was a 45 minute queue for us on a Friday afternoon, 3pm).

The Citygate outlet shops were right at the end of the cable car ride, so shopping is a good thing to plan for when visiting this site.

Visitors should be very respectful of the fact that more than a tourist site, this is a place of worship. Tourists of other faiths should respect the solemnity of the place, and its religious impact on Buddha's followers.
