“Really good hotel if on a budget”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 28, 2010

Needed to be on a tight budget as attending a self funded interview in Hong Kong. Chose the Cosmopolitan having looked at an all inclusive package on lastminute.com and read reviews here.

It certainly lived up to other reviews and whilst my 'budget' standard room had frosted glass (so I couldnt see the graveyard opposite - a particular Asian superstition), the hotel was really quite good.

Room was of an adequate size with a small bathroom (with shower).

Bed wasnt the most comfortable, but as my room was at the back of the hotel (rm 227) it was quiet and I slept well.

I objected to paying HK$ 130+ / 24 hours for internet access as it's free in most hotels. (I think it is free in lobby area).

There is no real bar within the hotel with atmosphere though you can get a drink in the reception area bar.
However 2 doors up is the Cosmo hotel which has a good but often very quiet bar off the reception. (You can sign your tab to the room at the Cosmopolitan).

The very frequent shuttle bus to Times Square where there is an MTR station (underground) was extremely efficient. One driver however was reckless and drove far too fast, causing many of the passengers to complain. All the other drivers were fine.
To walk is about 12 minutes to Times Square / Causeway Bay, 18 mins+ to Wanchai.

I didnt use the restaurant.

Staff I spoke to were pleasant and corteous.

I was particuarly grateful for being able to check in very early (10am) after a long flight from London overnight.
The hotel was also accomodating when I checked out, allowing me to change and use the bathroom in the 2nd floor 'Gym Room' prior to my return flight.

Overall, I thought the hotel was good value

Thanks for your detailed comments and that you reckon us a hotel with good value! We offer a number of room categories feature different room sizes and views and most of our rooms face the green field of the race course in addition to the city skyline of Causeway Bay. We are afraid in-room Internet incurs a cost in most starred hotels yet WiFi is of free access in our lobby and restaurant. 3T bar at the hotel lobby on the other hand offers chill-out time with international wine or coffee. Nooch Bar, located in our sister Cosmo Hotel, is famous for its award-winning cocktail and jazzy atmosphere.

Our shuttle bus to Times Square runs at a 20-min interval and we also have other routes reaching 15 destinations on Hong Kong Island including all major landmarks in Wan Chai, Admiralty, Central, etc. On-job trainings are provided to our drivers conveying to them knowledge of road safety and we are sure they will top passengers’ safety on the list. Nonetheless, we thank you for your comments and will ask our drivers to pay more attention to your concern.

Over the past 25 years we have visited Hong Kong 33 times. Initially for business but now for pleasure. We have stayed in 3 Hotels Kowloon side and 9 on Hong Kong Island.
For the past 10 years we have settled on one particular Hotel but they were booked out this time so stayed at the Cosmopolitan Hotel.
We asked for non smoking room high up with a view and got one. It was larger than any we have had at a mid price hotel since the grand old Lee Gardens was demolished in the early 1990's. The Super King sized bed was the largest we have ever slept on and very comfortable. The view was over the ancient cemetary, across the city and up to the Peak Tower. Excellent!
Its hike to the MTR but there is a tram stop 50 metres from the front door and 5 mins walk up Queens Road brings you to a No15 bus stop from where every seven minutes a double decker provides the thrill of a life time ride up to The Peak. Much more convenient than the Peak Tram and on the way down it can take you right down into Cental district.. Taxis are always a problem in rush hour but we discovered that they use the AIA buildings carpark in Stubbs Road to turn around and beat the one way system. There's a constant stream of them (usually empty) and its only 200 metres away. we never had to wait.
The staff were excellent and most helpfull, while the free WiFi in the lounge was much appreciated. My wife was very impressed with the Hotels 'Green Policies' regarding such matters as reducing energy wastage. Very sensible.
In short we cannot think of a single reason not to stay there again next time.

Wow you rasied us high up there! 25 years of travel experience and 33 times in Hong Kong have already made you a guru so we believe your say is more than just trustworthy. Thank you very much indeed!

Our rooms are all comfortably furnished and spacious and our beds are one of the most popular compliments. A tram stop is just outside our main entrance across the road in which the world’s most historical double deck trams take travelers to tour Hong Kong Island in a relaxing and economical way. If you are after a taxi ride, our helpful concierge staff will be happy to help get one while guest can just sit and wait at the hotel lobby. And we are happy your wife is impressed with our green policy that we believe saving the environment is one of our greatest missions that as a result we’ll save people around.

In terms of room view, Cosmopolitan provides a wide variety of 7 room categories featuring different room size and view and most of them face the greenery of Jockey Club and the city skyline with a breathtaking night view. So next time when you are with us, do email us and let us know if you wish for a different experience. Yet we are very pleased to learn that you are very content with the room you last stayed in. So we’ll see you again this year (hopefully)? Stay well!

OK hotel but at least 15 minute walk to Causeway Bay shopping area and the subway. Exorbitant charge for room internet so most people fill the lobby for the fre WiFi. Standard room is quite small. Buffet breakfast is good but busy. Good staff. Changed to the Butterfly on Morrison which has free room internet and a better location (a smaller boutique hotel)

Thank you for your kind words on our staff and breakfast. Cosmopolitan is close to the Causeway Bay and also the Wan Chai business district and it is just an easy 8-min walk to the celebrated Times Square shopping centre and MTR station. If a walk sounds tiring, our hotel offers free shuttle service bringing guests to Times Square (a 5-min ride) and other destinations on HK island including Wan Chai, Admiralty, Central, etc.

I am afraid internet charge in-room applies to a majority of starred hotels while we also supply free WiFi in hotel public areas (lobby and restaurant) where hotel guests can enjoy free connection. All our rooms are elegantly furbished and most of them face Jockey Club greenery field plus the city skyline of Causeway Bay – a dual view with just one cost! Hope we’ll see you again soon!

Our stay in the Cosmopolitan Hotel represented the end of our holidays. For almost four nights we’ve walked around Hong Kong and visited some beautiful places in the city. Po Lim Monastery in Lantau Island (very beautiful and very different from HK Island). The Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery in Sha Tin (have a good breakfast and enjoy the long walk to the top, you will lose the Buda’s counting’s certainly). The star ferry channel crossing. Don’t forget to do some shopping in the Ladies Market and to check if you flight company have a check in counter at the Hong Kong Central Station.

We are happy to hear that you had a wonderful stay in Hong Kong! Our hotel is an easy 8-min walk to the nearest MTR station and as courtesy, we provide free shuttle service with a 5-min ride. Our shuttle service also brings guests to 15 destinations and we are the only one hotel in Hong Kong that has shuttle service to all major shopping malls on Hong Kong Island including Times Square shopping centre (Causeway Bay), Pacific Place shopping mall (Admiralty), IFC shopping mall (Central) and CityPlaza (Quarry Bay). It also takes guests to Airport Express Hong Kong Station in Central where in-town check-in is available.

Cosmopolitan is also advantageously located close to the Cross Harbour Tunnel which means going to the tourist attractions on Kowloon side will be a swift. Our friendly and knowledgeable concierge will be more than happy to provide you with more information and direction to any destinations on your mind. See you again soon!

Internet usage is a bit expensive. Distinguishes its location the fact that is few minutes walking from downtown Hong Kong and Sub Way station.

Thank you for your excellent comments! Our Internet connection in guest room is priced competitively to other hotels in the same area, while guests can optionally use the WiFi available in the hotel lobby and restaurant – it’s all free! If a few minutes’ walk is still an annoyance, our hotel happily provides free lifts to guests with hotel shuttle bus to up to 15 stops including Causeway Bay/Wan Chai/Admiralty/Central etc – a service always ranked favourite by our guests!

Good location, but slightly out of the way from central touristy area. Breakfast buffet was delicious! Wireless internet is free in the lobby but not in the rooms--makes the lobby at night like an internet cafe. Bar in lobby is WAY too expensive--$12 for a beer? Really? Overall, a decent experience.

Cosmopolitan is located amid Wan Chai commercial district and engaging Causeway Bay where a lot of happenings are around us so it is sure a superb location for both business and leisure travelers! Only an 8-min walk/5-min ride to Causeway Bay MTR station, the hotel also provides free shuttle service routing to 15 popular destinations in Causeway Bay (Times Square shopping centre), Wan Chai (Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre), Admiralty (Pacific Place shopping mall), Central (IFC shopping mall), etc.

The free WiFi at the lobby and restaurant is always considered an excellent perk so it’s not hard to find guests doing their work and making connection with friends and families. Our 3T bar, also at the lobby, serves drinks and
alcohols with a price competitive to other hotels in the same area. I trust that our staff provides good service too so it will all worth the money at day end.

We are happy that you love the breakfast, hope it was your best kick-off to every beautiful morning!

I stayed at thus hotel for a business trip. The hotel is a decent al rounder. The room I had was a good size, very comfortable bed, big tv, wifi and wired Internet (you have to pay a service charge of 12 hkd per day). I only had a shower, no bath but this suited me perfectly.

Outside my window I had a great view of happy valley racecourse. The highway is right next to the hotel but I did not find it noisy at all.

10 minute walk to causeway bay station MTR and times square shopping centre. You can take the number 40 bus on the opposite side of the road to get to Stanley for the markets. This is a recommended activity.

Overall very good value for money and I would stay there again.

We are very happy to hear our guests love every bit of our hotel! Most of our rooms capture the race course view and the highway would make another beautiful picture of the city skyline. Only 8-min walk to the celebrated Times Square shopping centre, our hotel also provides complimentary shuttle service routing up to 15 pointes including Causeway Bay/Wan Chai/Admiralty/Central etc. The hotel is also within 15-min ride to several attractions on the Hong Kong Island such as Stanley, Jumbo Kingdom (the floating seafood restaurant), Ocean Park – one of the most visited tourist attractions in the world. We also offer shuttle service at charge to Ocean Park on weekends and ticket service at Concierge without any handling charge so that guests can save time queuing at the Park ticketing office.

As a matter of fact, we have received a lot of good comments about our bed. We also have other rooms facilitated with a bath tub, so try out next time when you are with us.
