“Better not here”
Reviewed June 2, 2013

We stayed for 4D/3N for a conference which we held in the venue right infront of the hotel. Very nice proximity as you just need to walk across to the other side of the street using the underground tunnel. But other than this reason, I'd say this hotel is inconvenient. Its quite far from the MTR Station (Wanchai and Causeway Bay Stations, for a first timer to stay in Wanchai District, I got disoriented!) and one has to take and grab the free shuttle services which the hotel provides. I mean its a good option but if you're in a hurry, you need to wait for the next shuttle time. The bus will take you to main points of destination like Admiralty MTR Station, Times Square and Central MTR Station. What is also hard is the way returning to the hotel. If you're not too adventurous, of course taking the MTR Station would be the best idea and if you're coming from Causeway Bay or Wanchai Stations, that would be too tiring and dreadful because its a quite a long walk (approx 10 minutes). Another let down is the smell of the restroom. Awful. The smell comes from the shower curtain, like it was not washed well. ALTHOUGH, the staff were very accommodating. That's one balance that made our stay good. Very helpful. I'm commending the concierge, Front Desk and Housekeeping staff. They were warm and respectful. But i did notice the Food and Beverage staff who manned the Breakfast Restaurant. I mean they should be trained more. They're facing foreigners who are very keen in customer service. It's not the typical restaurant, it's a hotel restaurant outlet. Simply put, its the people who work for the Front Desk, Concierge and Housekeeping who should be commended. Other than these, better research more and look for another hotel closer to MTR Station and commercial outlets.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the Jockey Club where you could see the field and the race. Interesting view.

I ended up staying 9 nights at the Cosmopolitan as there was nothing else available on short notice for that duration. The hotel generally is a bit run down and seems mostly suited to budget minded tourists. I asked to leave the first room as it smelled rather bad, the second room was not much better but I was too tired to move again. Breakfast was low average and you should expect to be seated at a table with other people (this was what usually happened to me) which is not the best situation when you want to go over your notes before business meetings all day. WiFi in rooms was expensive and the lobby was always teeming with people logging on to the free access there (difficult to log on to due to it being overloaded very often). The gym was awful, simply an unused hotel room with no ventilation and a few pieces of old equipment. Location was not so bad. Woken up almost every night by a different group of very loud guests returning to their rooms, shouting in hallways and slamming doors. Staff were friendly.

If you're touring Hong Kong on a budget, this would be a great place. Business travel? Not recommended at all!

Dear Theitodds,

Thank you for staying with us. We regret to know that there was occasional smell in the first room arranged for you, yet we trust our Guest Services Team had promptly assisted you on the room change upon noticing the incident. On the other hand, we do appreciate your comments towards our breakfast and we will definitely seek for improvement on the food quality and quantity to ensure great values delivered. Regarding the seating arrangement, we also regret to learn that the restaurant was a bit filled that time possibly due to high occupancy during your stay. Having said that, we will bring this issue up in the upcoming management meeting to improve the situation. Alternatively, our 24-hour self-serviced business centre offers guests a good place to prepare for meetings.

Thank you for your feedbacks on our gym facilities as well. While we aim to provide our guests basic equipment to work out after a long day, rest assured that we will seriously look into it and plan for facilities’ upgrade. Though all our rooms are equipped with sound-proof facilities, we are sorry about the occasional noise you encountered during your stay. While we offer free Wi-Fi in hotel lobby and other public areas, flexible rate plans for in-room internet access are also available to cater for different guests’ needs. We do hope you had the chance to relay the issue on internet access to our staff on the spot for immediate assistance.

We believe our convenient location amid the busiest business districts in Casueway Bay and Wan Chai gives our business travellers easy access towards many of the commercial locations. Our free shuttle service could also bring guests to major destinations like Wan Chai Convention Centre, IFC in Central and Pacific Place in Admiralty etc. Various meeting rooms are also available for meetings of any kind. Business travellers like you could also visit our official website and book for business package to enjoy exclusive privileges like free Wi-Fi in rooms, 24-hour check-in and out, laundry allowances etc. Meanwhile, we do have plans for upgrading our hotel facilities and we look forward to welcoming you back for another promising stay soon.

Good location for the rugby. Room was clean.tried to charge me for using the 'free' wifi, so check your bill. Breakfast was dreadful. Very limited choice, very poor quality food and the most rude man ever who does the eggs and omlettes. Actually was quite funny to watch him barking at his customers.

Room Tip: Get a room overlooking the Jockey Club.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your time on bringing your recent staying experience to our attention. First of all, we appreciate your kind understanding that a daily service charge of HKD 12 imposed by the internet service provider will be applied for complimentary internet access. Having said that, our front office staff will definitely be reminded to pay extra attention in order not to mischarge our guests for any extra costs.

On the other hand, we would also like to thank for your valuable feedbacks on our breakfast. While we will seriously look into the food quality and variety for future improvement, guest service always top the list of our concerns and training will be reinforced towards the concerned staff to ensure excellent service provided under any circumstances. We look forward to welcoming you back for another promising stay soon.

Booked two rooms with twin beds for 6 nights. Quiet rooms at the end of hallway away from elevators. Housekeeping staff was very friendly. Free wifi without service charge in the lobby but it can be hard to connect due to high usage.

Room Tip: Received 35% off and one ocean park ticket per booking from Tripadvisor promotion

I stayed at this hotel while in Hong Kong for a conference. It provided excellent service and was reasonably well located if you didn't mind a short 5 minute walk to public transport. It was only a nice 10 minute walk to "Times Square" where there are lots of restaurants and some great shopping. The hotel is across the road from the Jockey club and if you are lucky enough you will have a beautiful view over the green horse racing venue. I would recommend this hotel as a great short stay place when in Hong Kong

Room Tip: Pick a room over looking the Jockey Club. Also if you are a non smoker ask for a non smoking floor.

Dear Natalie,

Cosmopolitan is located amid the busiest shopping and business districts in Causeway Bay and Wan Chai, and we always aim to provide our guests a sense of oasis after a long day. Though all our mattress is imported from the high quality brand Simmons, we hope you had the chance to relay your request to our 24-hour Guest Services Team for an extra topper if a puffier bed was preferred. We also suggest you to try our other room types that measure up to 48 sq. m. for a more spacious stay upon return.

While it’s only an 8-minute walk towards the nearest Causeway Bay subway station, public transports like buses, trams and taxies are readily available at the door steps of the hotel. Alternatively, our favourite free shuttle service can always bring guests towards 15 major destinations. On the other hand, our Concierge team is always happy to give suggestions on the nearby restaurants and bars upon requested. Many of our guests did give us thumb ups on the array of bars available around the corner. Thank you for your comments on the breakfast as well and we will definitely continue to improve the food quantity and quality to ensure great value of money delivered. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

A 4-star hotel in WanChai, which I booked through Priceline, without breakfast. The service is very good, with good communication before and during our stay. Standard rooms are tiny, just about sufficient for a couple. I would put this at a very functional 3.5 star hotel, definitely not a luxury 4 star hotel. The bedding was excellent, though, and I pre-ordered my lavender pillows, heaven! Bathroom so-so, nothing special, same goes for the toiletries - which the little bottles would have flip-tops, because screwing and unscrewing tops is a bit silly. Our room had a view of a cemetery, very interesting. And what made it special, on 4.4 was a “cemetery bank holiday”, and we could see streams of people visiting the graves that day, pretty special.

As for knowledge on the horse racing, I expected more. We were there from Monday 1.4 to Friday 5.4. When we enquired about the racing on the Wednesday morning (normal race day), they informed us that, because it was a public holiday the previous Monday (1.4), the races took place that day. And we were there, in the hotel, trying to stay awake! If they only posted something in the lobby to let guests know??? The Wednesday race was canceled, therefore we didn’t get to visit the racing course.

We mostly walked where we wanted to be, although there is a hotel shuttle to 2-3 points of interest, which is convenient, if you time it right. The closest MTR (underground) station is WanChai, which is a good 10 minutes’ walk.

Would I stay here again? I would look around and compare with other hotels in the area, might try some place else next time - not because this bad, just because it wasn't that special.

Dear Guest,

It’s great to know that you did have a good stay at Cosmopolitan. Actually apart from the standard room that you stayed in this time, we offer 8 room categories sizing up to 48 sq. m. while most of them come with the amazing views of the city’s skyline or the unique greenery of racecourse. We hope you will have the chance to give them a try upon return. We are also delighted to learn that you loved the lavender pillow from our thoughtful complimentary 11-choice pillow menu! Meanwhile, your comments towards the toiletries will also be seriously reviewed for our continuous improvement.

On the other hand, we regret to know that you didn’t have the chance to watch the horse racing during your stay due to the pre-scheduled race day on the public holiday. We hope you had the chance to enquire about it upon check-in so that our colleagues can inform you in advance for better planning on itineraries. Our signature Deluxe Course View rooms also allow guests to watch the “live” horse racing in guestrooms, which is really worth trying on your next visit to Hong Kong! Though it’s within 10-minute walk to reach either the nearest Causeway Bay or Wan Chai subway station, we highly recommend our guests to try our free shuttle service that brings them towards 15 destinations in a hassle-free way. We look forward to welcoming you back very soon.
