“Good for families”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 21, 2013

The Cosmopolitan is no-one's dream hotel, but it is conveniently located, has a fair standard and friendly staff. What made it very suitable for us was the fact that they have quad family rooms, making it possible for our whole family to stay in one room. That is very rare these days, unfortunately.
But the room was good. Two large beds, a somewhat worn bathroom and a good view over the Causeway Bay area, albeit from the "backside".
Breakfast was included, but the capacity of the restaurant was not quite sufficient for the rush hour from 9am to 10am. Two out of three mornings we had to queue for around 5 minutes before getting a table. The buffet breakfast was fine, you could even order your own omelette.
The hotel, as mentioned, is conveniently located. That does not mean, however, that it is located in an idyllic or peaceful spot. On the contrary, it is in a very trafficed intersection with 24hrs heavy traffic. To walk from the hotel to the nearby shopping area you have to use the underpass and then walk for a few blocks before arriving at the commercial area. This only takes about 5 minutes, though, so it is no big deal.
The breakfast restaurant doubles as a Chinese restaurant in the evening. We never wanted to try that facility.
There is a lobby bar which is more like a hole in the wall in the busy lobby. It is not nice in any way, and it is quite amazing that this hotel has no topfloor/rooftop establishment, given the splendid views such a place would boast. There is a poster by the elevators recommending a bar at the next door Cosmo Hotel, but we took one look at it and ran away. There are lots of much better bars a few blocks away.
So, in short, the Cosmopolitan suited our needs but did not charm us in any way.

Dear Rottan,

Thank you for staying with us. It’s glad to know that you love our favorite family quad room with great view over this vibrant city. While our hotel is located amid the busiest shopping and business districts in Causeway Bay and Wan Chai, it’s only an 8-minute walk towards the nearest Causeway Bay subway station. On the other hand, our complimentary shuttle buses can also bring guests to 15 destinations on Hong Kong Island side.

We regret to learn about the lengthened waiting time for breakfast possibly due to high occupancy during your stay. This issue will be brought up in the upcoming management meeting for further review and improvement. We hope by next time you will also have chance to try the restaurant’s authentic Sichuan and Hauiyang cuisine in the evening which really worth trying. Regarding the bars, 3T bar is thoughtfully located in the lobby of Cosmopolitan Hotel for a quick drink anytime while the Nooch Bar at Cosmo Hotel next door offers guests a relaxing place to chill out with award-winning drinks. Having said that, we will definitely seek for improvement in the soon future. Same for the rooftop establishment, thank you for your feedbacks and we will review your recommendations seriously.

Rottan, we look forward to welcoming you back again soon for another promising stay.

Spent 3 nights here as the first part of a 9 night 3 hotel trip around Hong Kong with the family. Was a little bit worried about the noise transfer between rooms and were constantly shushing the kids although on reflection I can't remember hearing any noise from adjoining rooms. Breakfast was good although I can see it getting much busier each morning as we were leaving. Location was not too bad with both buses and trams very close (Trams were a good start as you knew there was only a very small number of places you could end up if you took the wrong one!). The walk up to the main road with markets/shops etc. was just doable with the kids 4/6. The hotel provides free shuttle buses around the place but probably could be a bit clear where each stop is especially for first time visitors. The almost free WiFi was handy.

I stayed at this hotel for five days in May with my husband.

The room was on the 20th floor and exceptionally small. So small that you could not have both suitcases open at the same time.

The bed was rock hard and the air conditioning very noisy, when trying to sleep.

I was shocked to find out that the internet in the room would be charged at £11 a day!!! There was free wifi in the lobby, but that was no use for me to work. This to me was shocking, I have stayed in several four star hotels over the past few years and this is the first one to charge for wifi. Wifi is needed by guests more and more these days and should be a standard feature of four star hotels. To make matters worse this was a by device rate, if I wanted to use my iphone or ipad mini, that would be an additional £11 per night.

My husband ordered a glass of coca cola in the hotel bar and was charged $45 hong kong dollars, when you could buy a whole bottle for $8 hong dollars at the nearby 7/11.

I asked to print out my boarding pass at reception and was told it would be $5 a page. This again is a disgrace. Others four star hotels this is a given.

Also no iron or ironing board.

On the positive side there was a few good english language channels on the telvision, there was a handy shuttle bus for Time Square and it is convinent for Happy Valley Racecourse. Our room looked out over the course.

My husband and I were shocked by the standard of the hotel and would certainly not be stopping here again.

Dear Couchguru,

Thank you for your comments. While it’s great to know that the racecourse view is to your liking, we also hope you will have chance to try our suites that measure up to 48 sq. m. for a more spacious accommodation next time. Yet, our Housekeeping team is always happy to help with luggage storage issue if any.

We regret to learn about the occasional noise from air-conditioner that you encountered, we will definitely look into the situation to avoid the same from happening again. We also hope you had chance to talk to our Guest Services Team for extra topper if a puffier bed was preferred. Similar for the iron and ironing board, our hotel is always pleased to offer upon guest’s request.

On the other hand, while our prices of minibar items are similar to international standard, we do believe it brought you great convenience in-room. We also understand the importance of internet access nowadays and therefore we offer free wifi in guestrooms simply by booking through our hotel website. It also comes with exclusive privileges like best rate guarantee, 24-hour stay check-in/ out as well. Though the internet access plan can now be used by multiple devices if they are not used simultaneously, we will take your comments seriously for improvement.

Although printing normally incurs minimal charges, we will surely consider your valuable feedbacks and remind our staff to extend flexibility when situation allows in order to render the best service to our guests. Couchguru, thank you again for your comments and we look forward to welcoming you back soon for a promising stay.

We stayed the hotel for short holiday visit the location is great and near to Times Square HK plus other attractions in Hongkong like Ocean Park and easy access to The Peak Hongkong where you can have a walk to the Bus Stop that brings you to the overall Peak of HK with reasonable price ... The room is nice with an over looking view and its only walking distance to the Jockey Club Hongkong... and other shopping destination adn they have daily service for the guest who want to visit to the malls with corresponding timing etc. The breakfast buffet is excellent with all the varienty of foods and the only thing i dont like is there s no free wifi in the room you need to to the lobby and restaurant to access the internet ..... And all the amenities like vanity kit, bathrobe, sleepers ,toothbrush ,shampoo..bath foam etc is already availble insid no need to call them...

We had a package deal with Cathay Pacific where this hotel was included. And we were very happy about this. The location is just perfect, good size rooms and comfy beds. I would choose this hotel again.

I first visited HK in 1997 on business and have stayed in a range of hotels since. It’s a fantastic city and well worth a holiday or stopover (perhaps avoiding the summer heat if you can). We’ve recently stayed in the Cosmopolitan (on four occasions) and although it may not be the most luxurious, we would happily use it again.

While the hotel has no pool and a very limited gymnasium, it is over the road from HK Jockey Club and the fantastic running track which is open to the public. This has to be one of the better kept secrets in HK for anyone wanting a quiet jog or walk right in the midst of one of the most densely populated places on the planet. The hotel is also close to the Peak, boasting lovely walking paths just a few minutes away from the centre of town.

Another treat that my wife loves is the ‘Foot Joy’ Chinese massage parlour and Spa adjoining the hotel. You get a discount and compared to London prices, the treatments are great value and the masseurs very skilled.

Lively Wan Chai and Causeway Bay are nearby there is a free shuttle if you don’t want to use the tram that passes right outside the front door.

The hotel staff are always friendly and helpful. Most have excellent English language skills but we did have an unfortunate incident where some new clothes were laundered instead of dry-cleaned (ignoring our written instruction on the list). In fairness, we should have been more cautious as the clothes were quite expensive.

Like others posting here, we got a free room upgrade. Our rooms were spacious and had all the usual facilities you’d expect. The décor was a little tired and I would hope to see the rooms being refurbished within the next two years. If you like tea or coffee in the morning with fresh milk (and without bothering room service), there is a 7-11 two blocks away where you can buy milk and keep in your room fridge.

There is some traffic noise on the lower floors – the main Aberdeen tunnel road is outside and seems to be busy at most times of the day. Mind you, we find that anywhere in urban HK is busy at any time of the day!

We went to hong Kong for a family wedding and several of us stayed at this hotel. The rooms were quite large and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was excellent and the staff were pleasant and efficient. The concierge went out of his way to answer our numerous questions. He booked us taxis and made sure the drivers knew where we wanted to go.The head of office staff was most helpful in printing out material for the wedding.
The location was good for catching buses to the peak and for Stanley market and most of all for the great night at Happy Valley race course. The Hotel was quite close to Causeway Bay and there was a very convenient free shuttle bus to the MTR.
We'd stay there again.

Room Tip: We went for the deluxe room and it was worth it.
