Breathtaking when the Buddha can be seen, sometimes there might be a fair bit of cloud in the sky which will mean that it will not be visible.

But when on a clear sky it is amazing.

I took the Ngong Ping 360 up to Lantau Island and glad I did as the roads are quite windy on the way down!

230 steps up to the Buddha so hope you are feeling fit like I did and ran to the top!

We were here 6 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed our discovery of the Buddha and the locals who had minimal low key shops in the area. However it is now a commercial venture unfortunately with the gimmickry being sold in all modern shops. The pathway to Buddha from the Ngong Ping Cable Car was interesting with the General Statues a highlight, but the commercialism left us cold.

Not my first visit to the Budha and cable car but certainly my last.
The online booking system which is essential is down, apparently under reconstruction, so reservations can only be made by fax. Who owns a fax machine in 2013 ? And then 48 hours in advance. Telephone booking is impossible the standard of English ( option 2 ) on the automated system it is impossible to decipher and a total waste of time.
So you must queque. I did for 3 hours and I would certainly not recommend it for families.
Once aboard the cabin which was crowded and far too hot the views are magnificent of Lantau, Macau and the airport. The Budha truly awe inspiring but the shops and coffee houses a total rip off.
This attraction has lost its attraction because it is just too hard for the average tourist to arrange. Take my advice and take the bus up and maybe all down.

A small version of the Forbidden City filled with gift shops, and a few fast food places. The Very Large Buddha was impressive. The cable car ride was the best. Wonderful vies of the harbor and the sea.
