“My best day in HK”
Reviewed December 7, 2012

I loved the trip to Lantau Island. It was a beautiful sunny day in November. We took the ferry from Central to Lantau Island. There are two types of ferries one is the slow one (1 hour) and the fast one (30 mins). The price is the same. I enjoyed the ferry ride a lot. On Lantau Island as we got out of the ferry, the bus station was right there. We took the bus up to the Monastery and the Big Buddha. The bus ride was also something like an hour. The Island is beautiful, it is so green and peaceful cows are all around. Finally we arrived there (it is the last stop so you do not really have to worry about getting off). We first went to the Monastery and had lunch there. They had a very nice vegetarian menu with tea, soup, rice, tofu, vegetables and spring rolls (for HKD 70 per person). If you save your receipt, you get later a free entry to the museum up at the Buddha. The monastery was under renovation in November 2012 so we did not spend much time there, we rather climbed up on the stairs to see the Buddha. It is a tough walk up, but not extremely hard, I expected something much worse (as I had a knee problem). There are also many stairheads between the staircases where you can rest if you have to. There is also a massive handrail on all the way up and down so the whole thing is very safe. The Buddha is breathtaking. As we climbed up, we found ourselves in the middle of a cloud, which was also fantastic. After visiting the Big Buddha, we took the cable car. Honestly, I had some hidden thoughts about taking the cable car before, but it was just great. Cabins were safe and clean, the view was amazing. The cable car landed at a metro station, so it was very easy to get to home after this adventure. I do recommend visiting Lantau Island, the Buddha and the Monastery.

“Lantau is beautiful but beware the rip off”
Reviewed December 7, 2012

Walking round the island is a delight with hidden beeches and interesting and luxurious flora and fauna but avoid the fish restaurants they display live sea food but you can only eat it for a huge cost (the price if displayed is per 47 grams so is misleading) If you have the expensive set meals the sea food is stale and badly cooked easily the worst and most expensive food we had during our stay

“beautifull small island outside busy hongkong”
Reviewed December 4, 2012

we go there by cable car and beck to HK by bus, a beautiful experience all day, choose the crystal cable cabin, u will see a beatifull scenery at the top, big buddha and the temple is a main attraction here at ngong ping village, but don't forget go to Tai O village by bus, it's a traditional market with cultural traditional fishing village, for some people maybe it's dirty to be there, but for me, i like traditional chinese culture this is a new experience to see traditional market outside of modern Hongkong, after that don't forget to see pink nose dolphin with a boat there

“We Saw The Big Buddha”
Reviewed December 4, 2012

Lantau is a beautiful Island! We went mainly to see the Big Buddha - that was well worth the visit. The main international airport is on Lantau too, so when you are getting the cable car to see the Buddha, you will have clear views of the planes taking off and landing, all while being suspended high about the ground!
