“A quiet respite”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2012

A great place to visit to escape the crowds and congestion of Hong Kong proper. The island has the feel of a small village with walking trails, a few shops along the one city street, and some good eateries. No cars are on the island. Access is by ferry.

“Day Trip to Lantau Island”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

We just recently did a day Tip to Beautiful Lantau Island whilst Holidaying in Hong Kong. We arrived after a perfect Forty Five min. trip by Motor Launch from Hong Kong Central Pier.Theres Lots to see including Beaches, Markets, the largest Sitting Buda in the world if you are feeling fit enough to climb the 420 something Steps you will get Fantastic views of the Islandand the South China Sea. You must visit the old Fishing Village and take the Boat Trip which finishes by going outside of the Harbour to view Pink Dolphins, and yes we saw them and they sure are Pink. After finishingbthe Day we caught the 360 deg. Chairlift back across the water to the Mainland the views are brilliant.

“Better Option Than Tung Chung Cable Car”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

Many travelers will be tempted to see the Big Buddha by travelling to Tung Chung and taking the cable car. Whilst this used to be the fun and easy way it is now a nightmare with 1 1/2 to 2 hour queues at the cable car. The best way to do this, a little longer, but certainly more enjoyable is to do the trip from the other end as it were. Simply take a ferry to Mui Wo on Lantau from Central, the number 6 ferry. Easy as jumping on a train, though you might want to check the timetable all on the web. Waiting for you at the arrival plaza is a bus to Nong Ping where the big Buddha is. The bus terminal is the furthest to the left. You will need cash or an Octopus card - around HK$18. It is a 30 mins journey through spectacular countryside. After doing the Buddha just jump on the cable car (near where the bus dropped you!) in the reverse direction, go to Tung Chung and MTR back to your hotel. The real pleasure is seeing the huge queues at the Tung Chung end trying to get on that cable car and knowing you just walked on at the other end. Make sure you only buy a one way ticket!! BTW the factory outlets at Tung Chung are a con job. Don't waste your time.

“my son lives here so had the advantage of a resident to show me the sights”

liked it all and food was great. Loved having a beer on waterfront and seeing the sunset. Dinner at night gave me a view of the Disney fireworks.
