I bought all the hype, queued up like everyone else to eat there, and finally got in.

What can I say? This place is not even in the Top Five Tapas restaurants in HK, let alone overall restaurants. Service is patchy, the place was surprisingly half full, and despite trying more than ten tapas and the prime rib, there's really nothing I would recommend.

The so called famous Bikini (ham , cheese and truffle sandwich) tastes like ......ham , cheese and mushroom....

At least six of our ten Tapas were doused in the same flavored cream sauce .....do they keep it in a bucket at the back?

When asked "Do you want the Prime Rib now or later?"' We agreed "Now"......and only had to wait another 20 mins to get it.....

Save your hype, time and money and go to 22 Ships or Boquaria.

Business dinner with 8 adults in recently opened Catalunya Restaurant, Wan Chai, HK. You do need to check their address and ask the taxi driver for 32 Oi Kwan Road. If you get out at Morrison Hill, it is a 15 minute walk :( Nice red-toned decor, but VERY dark. The management must know this as they gave us reading lights with our menus! Overall, the evening was very expensive. The staff are pleasant, but not nearly attentive enough. Our water glasses were not topped up regularly and, when we finally got the attention of a waiter to order more drinks, they took ages to serve them. Having previously lived in Barcelona, Spain, I can say the Tapas food was very good (in particular, the Anchovies (HK$110), Potatas Bravas (HK$65) and Calamares (HK$110), but the Avocado & Lobster Roll was a very small quantity (HK$160). And, although the waiter knew we ordered 8 dishes to share, there were no serving utensils, so we all had to share the Tapas with our own forks. Not hygenic. Regarding main dishes, the Lobster Rice (Risotto) (HK$480) was very bland and the Lobster portions came in the shell. Although I asked for a shell cracker and a long-handled meat picker, they only brought one set even though we had ordered 3 lobster dishes. The Mediterranean Red Prawns (HK$500) were delicious and big in size (3). Also, the "Segovian Style" Suckling Pig (HK$825) and its gravy was delicious. HOWEVER, you only get half a suckling piglet served on a wooden block and it is "chopped up" at the table with a ceramic side plate which is then smashed on the floor. Obviously, the suckling pig proved popular, but with a busy restaurant, the constant chopping with and smashing of plate became an irritating noise.
I always try to be positive in my reviews, but not quite on this occasion ... so, Catalunya HK management: turn up your lighting/train your staff to be more attentive/give your customers a full set of serving utensils/and just chop up the piglet with a knife at the table. We might enjoy it better next time.

Dear blairabroad2012

We’re so sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy your visit to Catalunya. As we’re in our soft opening period, we especially value any feedback from our guests. Our average spend per head (approx. HKD 800) may be higher than some other restaurants as most of our ingredients come from Spain. We appreciate your suggestions and will take them into consideration. We hope to welcome you back to the restaurant soon.

Yours sincerely,
The Catalunya Team
