99 Bonham All Suite Hotel
Ranked #30 of 726 Hotels in Hong Kong
Reviewed October 24, 2013

I've read about this new boutique property in an article mentioning Antonio Citterio's design group as the architect and designer and thought I'd check it out. As a new hotel, they were offering attractive rates and I booked there on my trip to HK last August.

I have never stayed in the Sheung Wan area before and I must say that it is a nice area to stay at compared to the very commercial Central. 'PoHo', as some may call the area, is still inhabited by quaint cafés, art, curio and antique shops, tea houses and the like. 99 Bonham Strand is conveniently located a block away from the Sheung Wan MTR stop. Entering the reception, this is the most minimalistic-designed hotel reception I have ever seen. As you enter, there is only a 3 seater sofa on the right side, two elevators on the left side, and a reception counter at the end. Everything is in glass and monochromatic colors. The floor where my room was at only has 3, maybe 4 other rooms so it's very private. My room had a sliding partition that has a kitchenette on one side and a wardrobe closet on the other. The room is quite small, typical of a Hong Kong studio, but it worked for me.A glass table, good enough for even 6 persons, can be used as a dining or work table. Various furnitures and fixtures are designed or inspired by Citterio such as the glass and stainless headboard, just like the reception's counter, is similar to Citterio's Eos console table. The Kelvin LED lamps on each side tables are also designed by him. The sink and shower fixtures are also Citterio's line for Hansgrohe. The bathroom drawer is a Mobil, by Kartell, also designed by Citterio. The toilet and shower area is quite small but I am fine with it. The floor where I was at has a washer/dryer utility room that guests can use. This is very convenient if you are staying over for over a week or so, just like I did. They even provided laundry detergent and a laundry basket under the sink. All the basic amenities such as LCD screen, free wifi, audio system are standard. One thing, there are no food and beverage outlets in this property, as it's more a serviced residence than a hotel. But no problem as the surrounding area is teeming with cafés and rests. The experience is like having your own studio in HK. As I enjoy staying in the Sheung Wan area, I definitely see myself booking here again.

Brand new rooms, big for Hong Kong, you even get a dining table for 6,hob, microwave, fridge and cutlery. Very quiet and super comfortable bed. Great shower. Surprisingly cheap for a place of this quality on the MTR line on the Island. Difficult to find, if close to station.

Location is absolutely perfect for those who savor old Hong kong, enjoys a bit of LKF night life etc, because it is in Sheung Wan. On this trip I wanted to just focus on Central - Sheung Wan for work and leisure so voila, I did right staying there.

Quality of the accommodation - the room was absolutely impressive. The refurbishment - new and well done every inch of the space. chic furniture, nice shower, top quality linen/towels. Chose the top level room to make sure I would get a great view and, more importantly, to escape the city noise! the floor-to-ceiling double-glazed wall/windows serve this perfectly.
the bed is on the small side.... but extremely comfy.

Knock on wood I have no problem with the room guarantee deposit - note this if you do go to this hotel, at check-out they send someone to check your room - fair enough with this, but if everything is OK they would just tell you it's ok - you can do nothing but just to trust that they will cancel the guarantee (you got no proof whatsoever that they checked and agreed that the room is returned ok)

My experience was positive, and all being equal, I will pick this hotel again for sure.

Room Tip: the higher you go the better, but that also comes with the price.

Found this hotel on tablet hotels and it seemed to represent good value based on the size and location. Technically it's not a hotel but a serviced apartment with daily housekeeping.

As per other reviews it is a modern studio with a rain shower bathroom and a kitchenette well equipped with a fridge, stove and cooking utensils. You'll also find a large queen sized bed, and banquette seating at the dining table. To maximize space and light, there are floor to ceiling windows with shades drawn and though the view is of other buildings, at night it's quite lovely seeing the lights in the other buildings illuminate the darkness.

Location is excellent in Sheung Wan; tell the taxi driver when you arrive at Central/Hong Kong station to go to Bonham strand. The MTR is less than 2 mins walk away and if you want to walk to IFC it's within a 15mins of stroll. Diagonally across the building is a Michelin starred chinese restaurant called Tim's Kitchen. The dim sum is excellent as are the other dishes. Walking to central and Lan Kwai Fong is easily within 20 mins.

You can opt for similarly priced rooms in other hotels but we loved the size offered by 99 Bonham. We really enjoyed our stay and would stay again.

The Hotel is conveniently located very close to Sheung Wan metro, and in walking distance to SoHo and LKF. We always stay in this area when we go to Hong Kong, and most hotels here have tiny rooms, however the rooms at 99 Bonham were very reasonable sized, almost twice as big as the ones we usually stay in.

The bed was my favorite part of the room, and the main reason this hotel gets four and not three stars. Although not that big (queen size I think), it was one of the most comfortable hotel beds I've ever slept in. Mattress not too soft neither too hard - simply perfect, and the duvet and the pillows were a little peace of heaven. I had a great night of sleep, and would return just to sleep in that bed.

I loved the L'occitane toiletries provided and the rain shower. We would definitely stay here again.

However, when we wanted to check in at 2.45 pm the room wasn't ready yet (normal check in time is 2 pm), and they asked us to sit down and wait until 3.30 pm for the room to be cleaned. That was the only thing I didn't like about 99 Bonham.

I had a nice stay at this apartment hotel with my partner. It's a quieter area, 12 min. away from LKF, and it's clean, modern, but also comfortable. My favorite things about the room was that it's clean, the bedding had no smoke or bad smell, and the toiletries are high-quality and well-prepared. My cons would be that the TV channels were not programmed correctly, no shower curtains, and no slippers. Otherwise, nice, lovely hotel for it's value. I reccommend this for anyone who wants a more private stay, and just a few minutes away from central.

I stayed only for one night here based on good reviews. The rooms are small like most Hong Kong central hotels. It's a tall narrow building with only 3 rooms per floor (lower floors). No views to speak of since the hotel is surrounded by other buildings. The room was modern and nicely furnished with a small table and chairs, very comfortable bed, stereo system/TV and small bathroom. There was no door to bathroom and no shower curtain (just a bath with sprayer) but the toilet is in a room with a door. Pleased to find that they had L'Occitane ammenities in the bathroom - a great quality brand. It is nice that there is a microwave, refrigerator and even a stovetop but I could not find any utensils. The closets/kitchen are contained by a sliding wall that covers one or the other. Closets were spacious but there was no room safe and the rooms have standard key entry. You do need a card key to get into the building and up the elevator but I still prefer room safe for valuables. TV had a decent selection of stations and the stereo/iPod player was nice.
Staff was friendly but I still hate that they charge your credit card five hundred HK as a "guarantee" upon checkin. I inquired as to exactly what it was guaranteeing since I had pre-paid my room, and got the typical vague answer. Most HKG hotels do this but I find it offensive.
Otherwise, the hotel was comfortable and conveniently located a short walk from the trolly or Sheung Wan MTR station.

Room Tip: Upper floors for more isolation from street noise.
