The Jervois - Full Floor Designer Suite Hotel
Ranked #16 of 721 Hotels in Hong Kong
Reviewed July 15, 2013

It was our first time in Hong Kong and we really liked staying at the Jervois. The rooms were set up as serviced apartments, which meant that we had a litte sitting room and kitchen next to the bedroom. The room was very small, but very nicely renovated - clean and simple luxury. We really enjoyed the privacy of this hotel - a very different experience to staying in the larger hotels in Hong Kong with hoards of business men/ women and tourists. There is a lovely little wine bar next door and it is very centrally located and easily accessible from train stations. We would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend to our friends.

We got to this hotel after a long flight from London and we did not get a good impression.

The street was narrow, busy and dirty. The lobby was just a long corridor, the lift took ages to get down because it serves too many floors and when you get off it there is a 1x1 m space in front of your door and it is boiling hot because there is no airco outside the lift.

The room also felt claustrophobic, it was a suite but the wooden walls and the layout somehow made it uncomfortable. Although the room was advertised as a one with a view of the water, we were on the 19th floor and all we saw was the buildings in front. We reckon the view starts on the 30th floor.

To make matters worse the bed was not a kingsize. Locally "large double bed" means Queen size and that is how we found out. The cot we got was very small and that meant the three of us would have to sleep in the queen bed. Not very promising for our jetlag.

So far all the above can be subjective. Nevertheless the following is not: since we were not happy with all the above, we explained why and we asked to cancel our reservation of course by paying the usual one day penalty. Our plan was to get out to another hotel immediately. We had paid the whole stay upon check in, hotel policy. We were told we could not cancel the room.

I asked Booking.com to do it for us as they did our reservation. Booking.com were told the booking was cancelled but they did not tell them we had paid already. When we doubled check we realized that their intention was to let us go, not give their fee to Booking.com by canceling the reservation and not give us our money back either.

It wa s getting too complicated, we were exhausted and we decided to stay. We asked for an extra bed for our 19month old son. As the room was so small, there was no risk he was falling from the bed because it touched the wall. They tried to charge us for the bed but we refused and they accepted.

This can be enough to ruin anyone's holiday.

There is not point to make a guest stay if they are not happy. We would have gladly paid the one day penalty and pay two hotels that day and that would have done it. Even a simple negative would have been better. But lying and tricking guests is not acceptable.

We informed Booking.com and we will certainly not go back when in town

Room Tip: Ask for a room from the 30th floor upwards

Stayed for one night at this nice boutique hotel for a special event.

The hotel was located at a smaller street in Sheung Wan district. Walking distance to the MTR Sheung Wan station. Also walking distance to a variety of restaurants and fast food shops.

The hotel is marketed as a service apartment but also does short stays (including 1 night). Nice friendly 'front desk' staff (literally just a tiny desk 'in front'). The hotel does not sell on services. Its strong points are nice location, quiet, privacy.

There are Flats 'A' and 'B'. each are served by a separate elevator shaft. So when you step out of the elevator, there is only one door which leads to your flat. Talk about cool privacy! In addition, there are no front desk staff at night time. Use your resident's card to open the front door and also activate the lift.

The rooms themselves were nice. Stayed in a 'B' flat. which was advertized as a 700 sq ft flat. The dining and sitting area was compact but nicely designed. The kitchenette was tiny but had all the essentials - cooking hob x2, nice sink and tap, small refrigerator, microwave. Included were pots and pans and eating utensils.

Lots of natural daylight and the lighting and ambience was really nice in the evenings.

The bedroom was separated by a sliding door mechanism that hides away when you dont need it. The bathroom and shower were nice and clean. Shower had a rain shower. Amenities were by L'occitane (!) including the hand soap. Toothbrushes were Colgate. Had a nice hair dryer. Ample wardrobe space.

All in all, a nice place to stay. Would recommend to friends if vising Hong Kong for an extended period of time... though have to say its on the expensive side to stay per night. Perhaps they have nice monthly rates...

The welcome chocolate chip cookies were a nice touch, and were fabulous.

Great location. 5-10 mins from metro station (I think exit A or B). Lovely size with kitchen, living, bathroom with amazing shower and bedroom. Laundry facilities. Wi-Fi. It's quiet. You have a floor to yourself. I have high standards and this hotel met them all. If I was staying on business I would gladly base myself here as it's more like a small apartment. Everything clean. Polite staff. No complaints. Will definitely stay here next time in HK.

The Jervois was a great base for us to explore the delights of HK from. The spacious (by HK standards) rooms were beautifully designed and had everything you could ask for. A big plus was the seperate sofa / living area and kitchen that gives you just that little extra room to move. The reception is nothing more than a font desk and there is no room service, so don't expect the spoils of a hotel lobby - but by giving that up, you save on price. Having the ShengWen MTR station just two blocks away was perfect and it was an easy stroll to queen's rd shopping and Hollywood rd restaurants. All in all, a perfect HK city pad!

We had the one bedroom suite which is bigger than most average apartments in HK! All the reviews prior to mine sums it all up. It would be big enough for longer stays. It's definitely not average! Free membership to Fitness First was great. The Green Lounge cafe directly opposite the hotel has great coffee and eggs benedict! We are going to try Barista Jam today which is to the right of the hotel.

Room Tip: For longer stays splash out on a bigger room.

Very modern and sleek interiors with floor to ceiling windows, marble bathroom and extremely comfortable bed. Free wireless was very quick and the kitchen facilities were useful although we didn't make full use of them.
The shower was great, nice L'Occitane toiletries and big fluffy towels. Very quiet, on the 19th floor there is minimal sound from the street. The only downside is its anonymity, it has no real lobby or atmosphere to speak of and has more of a business traveller vibe.
