“Well designed boutique hotel in bustling Wanchai District”
Reviewed January 2, 2014

Location: Hotel is located in the oldest part of Hong Kong. Like most parts of Hong Kong, neighborhoods constantly got re-developed. In the vicinity of the hotel you will find old temples built by the indigenous fishermen way back in the early 1800s before the British arrived; office buildings built in the 1990s that rose 60+ stories tall, new apartment complex built in the last few years that are 40+ stories; and plenty of residential blocks 10 to 20 stories tall that were built in the 1950s to 80s. The location of the hotel is at the edge of Taiyuen bazzar/Wanchai market; which remain in the same location today but are now modernized and reduced in size. One will find a mix of old and new in this vicinity. From this hotel it's easy for to explore and find out how the locals live while enjoying modern hotel living.

Rooms: The hotel rooms are of good size by Hong Kong or any metropolis standard.Floor-plans are smart and make good use of the space available (FYI, residential blocks in the neighborhood are being sold at more than USD 2,500 per sq. ft . By that rate, the space occupied by the rack to place your luggage costs over US$25,000!) Interior fittings and decorations are modern, functional and well designed. I like the ceiling to floor windows, power window curtains.

Service: Not much for me to comment on. From my perspective it's mostly lodging only. We don't need concierge or dinings.

My husband and I just returned from staying at Hotel Indigo for the past 4 nights. This hotel is adorable....the staff was always super friendly (always willing to flag down taxis and give us restaurant and touring tips) and the room was gorgeous! Comfortable, large bed, really nice modern room decorations and the shower was so nice. We loved the automatic blinds too. Great location as well. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Great boutique hotel, very central. Great service, new clean rooms. Bar and food are also very good. An excellant boutque hotel. Recommended for short stays as gym very limited and no pool.
would recommend for buisness travellers or short stay hotel.

Dear iain m,

It is fantastic news that you think w have "a great hotel". We are thrilled that you enjoyed everything so much. I was little surprised that you mention no pool, but in actual fact we have a stunning rooftop pool, so I was disappointed you missed it on the same floor as the rooftop Skybar. We look forward to welcoming you back and showing you stunning views of the neighbourhood from the pool deck on the 29th floor!

With best regards, Mark.

Design of the rooms is spectacular: modern Chinese style, big rooms, open layout (bathroom integrated), lots of windows. High ceilings for HK standards, good quality, especially the bed. The neighborhood is full of good restaurants, however there is no harbour view from any room really. Small pool on the roof, not heated, but with nice gimmick (view to the street). Good, no frills service. Overall an excellent hotel, especially if you like modern design with a Chinese feeling to it.

Room Tip: As always in HK, higher up rooms are better (due to less noise), however the views in this hotel do...

Located near the "quieter" side of Wan Chai and minutes from public transportation, Hotel Indigo offered a quiet and pleasant retreat from the rush of the city. We stayed 3 nights in a deluxe corner room with a stunning view of the mountains. The automatic window blinds were excellent for selecting the amount of privacy and light in the room. The king bed was soft and comfy, and the decor was hip, but welcoming. We had room service delivered one morning, and ate at the cafe post restaurant another; both were great with a nice selection offered. The rooftop pool was awesome, with a sun deck and Jacuzzi, and a section of the pool that was see through to the street from 28th floor! There was a rooftop lounge as well; we had a glass of wine there a few nights, but it was mostly empty. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would stay there again!

Room Tip: Go for the deluxe corner and ask for a mountain view.

There are only a handful of Indigo hotels around the world, the concept of an international chain trying its' hand at smaller, modern designed and personalised boutique hospitality.

The Indigo HK is a nice stay away from home and is a good contrast between the modern design and the local HK neighbourhood & culture.

Pros:
- Inspired by the local area, right opposite the historical Wanchai post office on Queens Road East.
- Located at Wanchai Market, walking distance to buses, MTR & trams.
- A great local area with plentiful local food. For a high end modern British fare and lovely outdoor terrace bar, go to The Pawn (5-10mins walk away)
- Beautifully designed rooms, open plan but spacious, functional and very comfortable.
- Complimentary Nespresso & Shanghai boutique organic brand Ba yan ka la toiletries.
- A quiet, roof top pool although small is a nice addition for this small property
- Friendly and attentive staff
- For tourists and those new to the area, Indigo have done a great job writing their in room guide, which explains the local historical sights, shops and must eats.
- Good value for money.

Cons:
- I could not check in until after 5pm, which was surprising as I already arrived at 4pm.
- If you are intending on travelling by public transport to the hotel, it is quite difficult to try and take your luggage from the MTR through the market. I would recommend that you take a taxi from HK station, or a taxi directly from the airport. The airport bus does not stop near the hotel, and so you would have to walk 10-15 mins and through the hustle of the market.
- No actual bathroom, as it is an open plan room with just a separate shower room and toilet, but this is ok if you are solo or a couple.

Stayed here for two nights last month and was very pleased. Nice touches everywhere and lots of cool design elements. Plus very close to the MTR station and not far from good eating and drinking areas. Hotel staff were very professional and check-in was painless. Nice rooms and interesting lounge/restaurant areas.
