“Biggest Bookstore in Hong Kong”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

The Eslite bookstore is currently the biggest bookstore in Hong Kong. There was a big mess in the first few weeks after opening as there were too many visitors. I have visited Eslite few days ago and I would say it is much better now, much less people and much enjoyable, This bookstore contains millions of books and it never fail to impress me.

“Nice space, great selections in books and gifts.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 4, 2012

There's a zone for childerns' books with seats.
Books are arranged well. Both English and Chinese books are included and both are in good taste. The whole site is in fact larger than the Hong Kong's brand bookstore Page One.

Not able to find a lot of books about Hong Kong's architectures and architectural history. There are mostly picture books only. The staff answers that's due to the fact not many are published.

“Can't compare to Taipei”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 16, 2012

Perhaps I have my expectations too high, the new Eslite at CWB Hong Kong is so not what I imagined! It's small and noisy, just not a place you can enjoy browsing books. It's nothing to compare with any Eslite branches in Taipei.

“24-hour book store - A trendy concept but will it last?”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2012

Trying to remain on the cutting edge of trends, Hong Kong just added a 24-hour bookshop, called Eslite Bookstore, in the recently opened Hysan Place shopping mall in Causeway Bay. This interesting concept has worked well in Taiwan so perhaps it will do fine here in Hong Kong. We certainly have the shopper and consumer base in this part of the world to potentially support this business idea.

We recently visited the new 24-hour bookshop, which occupies the 8th - 10th floor of Hysan Place and found it to be a good bookshop, similar to other larger book shops we have in Hong Kong, with a wide variety of book sections and a decent layout. Unfortunately, way too many people were crammed into Eslite during its early days, making book browsing a bit uncomfortable at times. This is understandable considering the press Eslite is receiving but it doesn't make for particularly enjoyable book shopping.

Overall, we found Eslite to be an interesting, trendy concept but one that seems to serve little purpose other than to generate some buzz. Are there really times when you suddenly need/want a book at 3am and can't wait a few hours until shops open? The idea of a 24-hour book shop, especially in Asian cities which are so highly wired to the net, seems little more than a fad, one that will probably wear off in time. However, for the moment its pretty cool with the locals, as evidenced by the thousands we saw pouring in and out of Eslite during our visit. Also, if there is one place in Hong Kong that can support such a shop concept, it is Causeway Bay so perhaps this will work.

While we'll probably stay away for now, to avoid the crowds, this might be something of interest for those that want to see what a 24-hour, super crowded bookshop looks like.
