Celebrity chefs think they can put up any crap restaurant and people will go
That may be true but anyone who wastes their money here once will not be back
Loud Led Zeppelin music being piped in is not cool it is distracting
The crab salad was terribly salty
My friend ordered the calamari and it was so average. Not subtle flavor the red sauce tasted out of a can
The staff was trying very hard but with a crappy overpriced menu there is only so much you can do
If you are looking for a great steak in hk skip this and head to Wagyu

“Pricey and not worth it. Service could improve.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2012

We went for dinner on recommendation of Mandarin Oriental hotel (Mandarin Grill was full). Started well, the decor and ambience is good, we had a nice table and were offered a complimentary glass of Prosecco. The booths face inwards to the room as the windows face out to a nondescript side street. We ordered the Dry Aged Fiorentina which is on the bone and carved for you into tenderloin on one side and striploin on the other. Bread is offered but it's nothing special. They make a big deal of the varieties of salt on offer.
When mains came the waitress spilled our sauce on the table, twice. She simply covered the mess up with paper napkins and then the food was put down on top.
Initially the meat seemed OK, there is a lot of it, the portion size is 36oz and they cut it into very large chunks, leaving the bone in the middle. As you progressed into the larger cuts though, the meat was really grisly and not appetizing, not very hot either. We sent it back to be reheated and I'm afraid it didnt help. So really disappointed that the meat did not live up to hype. The sides were good especially the mash which has an egg mixed into it at the table. We asked for recommendation on wine to accompany meal as we were not familiar with Italian wine, and probably 70% of the options are Italian. We were recommended a Barolo which was OK, not sure it was worth HK$1200 though. There are not many choices of wine in the lower ranges, I would stick to house wine.

At the end of the meal we did complain and pointed out the mess on the table which by this time had seeped all round the table cloth. We felt they should have taken notice when this happened and also when we sent the food back. We were offered a complimentary cheese plate and glass of wine and moved to a clean table. By then we just wanted to leave.

I hope this restaurant improves as the concept is good. They are in soft opening, having been open only 2 months, and the staff are still under training according to the manager. It is not fine dining though, we spent a similar amount in Pierre the night before which has 2 Michelin stars and this set the benchmark for us. And the wine was much better....

“Yummy - best steak so far hands down in HK”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2012

Ok there is no dispuing this place is expensive, we were there for a Business Dinner, but things in HKG have become really overpriced.

The service was a bit over the top, there were too many people flaffing around our table the whole evening and they didnt seem to all know what they were doing. There was also alot of cutlery too....

I ordered the NY striploin and all i can say is the Steak was very good ...it melted in your mouth....I would come back again with friends on a special occasion.

Desserts and side dishes were all very nice as well which was a bonus.

“Nothing new on the meat-scene”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2012

Went with friends to try this new restaurant specialized in steaks and meat . The ambient is much better then the parent restaurant few floors below (La Lupa) and the service was quite attentive and polite . The USDA fillet and the Ribeye were nice but they arrived at our table quite too cold and one of my guests sent it back minutes later because it was not really a pleasure to eat cold meat . Side dishes were on average , for my personal taste the best dish was the Porcini Fonduta . All in all not a bad experience but in my personal opinion Mr. Batali didn't add anything to the meat-lover's scene in Hong Kong .
