I decided to go to Stanley, having been there several times before, and this time visit the commonwealth war graves just outside the village. The market has had its day and so much smaller than before and less variety of goods, although Chinese silk and plastic tat is in abundance! Paintings and pictures are still a good souvenir option.
The war graves was a very interesting visit and learned a lot about the defence of Hong Kong during WW2.

An open market which you can find souvenir, gift, t shirt, sports shoes, restaurants and bars. Beach and sea side is just nearby. Nice location and getaway.

Remember to bargain when it is quiet. During rainy season they are also keen on bargaining and willing to drop the price. Do not bargain immediately and fall for the first price. Walk through the market and find the cheapest offer before you bargain.

Great way to get there is 973 bus. Top ride and great views on the way. Markets are pretty good. Restaurants nearby are quite nice. We are at the Mexican and enjoyed it. Good guacamole.

You can probably pick up lots of stuff as curios and gift. Every thing can be bargained. There's a ocean observation deck away from the market. It's full of nice restaurants. You can sit in the open roof types and sip cold beer. For couple is ideal. The road runs through some of the most beautiful areas of Hong Kong Island
